I'm new here. Was driving through Augusta and Machias a few months back and saw the monstrosities on the ridgeline.  So damn sickening.   Then I saw this lady's video https://youtu.be/VkRzbdSk--o and again, the monstrosities.  How the hell did this happen?   All for 3 Watts per sq. meter.

Anyway, so glad you guys are out here doing what you're doing. Wish I knew about this site years ago.

I read Mike Bond's book a few years back but even before then I couldn't believe the government sold the soul of Maine for a few Watts per sq. meter.

Is Yankee nuclear plant still in Wiscasset?  I imagine it's not. Been years since I lived in Maine. 84 is when I left. Born in Portland and raised on Peaks Island. One of the first pictures of me is my mom taking me to a protest against the Yankee plant in the 70s.

Oh, how naive people were.  They don't know what's coming without RELIABLE electricity.  Nameplate doesn't mean squat. It's RELIABLE electricity that allows us to live as we're accustomed to.

Anyway, keep fighting the good fight. I'll be sticking around.

Blessings,

Josh

Hi Josh, Thanks for your comment, which is spot on. In a nutshell "what happened" is that back in 2003 the legislature created the Maine Wind Energy Act (Title35-A, §§3401-3459). The Act was written by various legislators, groups and individuals, almost all of whom had a stake in seeing wind development succeed. The Act states that "Wind energy is an economically feasible, large-scale energy resource that does not rely on fossil fuel combustion or nuclear fission, thereby displacing electrical energy provided by these other sources and avoiding air pollution, waste disposal problems and hazards to human health from emissions, waste and by-products". Wind developers were invited to draw on a map the areas they most wanted to develop and those areas were legally designated as the "Expedited Wind Permitting Area". This is still the law in Maine. Thousands of citizens have worked educate Maine about the reality of wind energy and have opposed these projects with limited success. Sad but true.

Thank you, Josh. Maine can't go to crap by energy policy that no one wants. Those who think wind, solar and batteries are good for Maine are people who are not good for Maine.

Welcome home, Josh.  Maine needs all hands on board to help fight the industrialization of our mountains and ridge lines. Maine Yankee was closed down decades ago.  Glad you're planning to stick around!

(excerpts) From Part 1 – On Maine’s Wind Law “Once the committee passed the wind energy bill on to the full House and Senate, lawmakers there didn’t even debate it. They passed it unanimously and with no discussion. House Majority Leader Hannah Pingree, a Democrat from North Haven, says legislators probably didn’t know how many turbines would be constructed in Maine if the law’s goals were met." . – Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting, August 2010 https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-power-bandwagon-hits-bumps-in-the-road-3/From Part 2 – On Wind and Oil Yet using wind energy doesn’t lower dependence on imported foreign oil. That’s because the majority of imported oil in Maine is used for heating and transportation. And switching our dependence from foreign oil to Maine-produced electricity isn’t likely to happen very soon, says Bartlett. “Right now, people can’t switch to electric cars and heating – if they did, we’d be in trouble.” So was one of the fundamental premises of the task force false, or at least misleading?" https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-swept-task-force-set-the-rules/From Part 3 – On Wind-Required New Transmission Lines Finally, the building of enormous, high-voltage transmission lines that the regional electricity system operator says are required to move substantial amounts of wind power to markets south of Maine was never even discussed by the task force – an omission that Mills said will come to haunt the state.“If you try to put 2,500 or 3,000 megawatts in northern or eastern Maine – oh, my god, try to build the transmission!” said Mills. “It’s not just the towers, it’s the lines – that’s when I begin to think that the goal is a little farfetched.” https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/flaws-in-bill-like-skating-with-dull-skates/
