Voices of Vinalhaven, Maine Part 1 of 2
Produced December 21, 2009 (Posted December 21, 2009) by Windaction.org
On December 19, WERU 89.9 FM radio conducted a lengthy interview with residents living near the Fox Island Wind Farm located in Vinalhaven, Maine, an island community about 12 miles off the coastline. The wind facility, consisting of 3 GE 1.5 MW wind turbines, was commissioned on November 17, 2009.

This video (part 1 of 2) was compiled using excerpts of the interview. Those speaking are describing their experience of living with turbine noise. The images appearing in this video are not from Vinalhaven, however, they are actual photos of other locations in North America where towers were sited very closed to homes.

The entire interview can be heard at WERU 89.9 FM .

People are catching on to the subsidy scam. When the wind executives finally, honestly, state that Maine is not appropriate for wind generators, it is all about raking in subsidies, grants and half taxation schemes not electricity maybe the legislators will admit to being duped by the marketers and lawyers and once again represent the people of the State of Maine. That is why they were elected in the first place.

It would be super if our newspapers and /tv news could carry these people's concerns. They don't. Then there would not be so much ignorance. I live near the Stetson Mt wind farm. When we had our hearing, LURC nor First Wind answered questions. DEP had many complaints from the Mars Hill wind farm and then denied them. The AG office had complaints and denied them. What is going on?

I hear the Stetson Mt wind farm at 2.2 miles away. For over a week, the electricity has been off at the wind farm. The red flashing lights are off at night. Life flights go over this area. FAA says to call the owner. No one knows who the owner is. Credit Suisse was going to foreclose the first of the year. You cannot google and find out. First Wind, who built the wind farm , has never been a good neighbor. They call our houses camps. We live here year round. Ms. Carroll , the director of LURC , says no one lives here. When a second wind farm was going to be added with 18, I think , 4 story high turbines, we could not even have a public hearing. Many beautiful homes will have no value as this second wind farm is right at the lakes. The law that says local towns have no say in the siting of wind farms is only for part of the state. Do you think it is for the poorer areas?

(excerpts) From Part 1 – On Maine’s Wind Law “Once the committee passed the wind energy bill on to the full House and Senate, lawmakers there didn’t even debate it. They passed it unanimously and with no discussion. House Majority Leader Hannah Pingree, a Democrat from North Haven, says legislators probably didn’t know how many turbines would be constructed in Maine if the law’s goals were met." . – Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting, August 2010 https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-power-bandwagon-hits-bumps-in-the-road-3/From Part 2 – On Wind and Oil Yet using wind energy doesn’t lower dependence on imported foreign oil. That’s because the majority of imported oil in Maine is used for heating and transportation. And switching our dependence from foreign oil to Maine-produced electricity isn’t likely to happen very soon, says Bartlett. “Right now, people can’t switch to electric cars and heating – if they did, we’d be in trouble.” So was one of the fundamental premises of the task force false, or at least misleading?" https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-swept-task-force-set-the-rules/From Part 3 – On Wind-Required New Transmission Lines Finally, the building of enormous, high-voltage transmission lines that the regional electricity system operator says are required to move substantial amounts of wind power to markets south of Maine was never even discussed by the task force – an omission that Mills said will come to haunt the state.“If you try to put 2,500 or 3,000 megawatts in northern or eastern Maine – oh, my god, try to build the transmission!” said Mills. “It’s not just the towers, it’s the lines – that’s when I begin to think that the goal is a little farfetched.” https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/flaws-in-bill-like-skating-with-dull-skates/
