This 2007 legislative statement from the "Wind Energy Act" is now 16 years old .
The statement rambles on declaring: "or nuclear fission, thereby displacing electrical energy provided by these other sources"
There are also several passages claiming wind energy "is an economically feasible, large-scale energy resource "
This whopper statement purports: "At present and increasingly in the future with anticipated technological advances that promise to increase the number of places in the State where grid-scale wind energy development is economically viable, and changes in the electrical power market that favor clean power sources, wind energy may be used to displace electrical power that is generated from fossil fuel combustion and thus reduce our citizens' dependence on imported oil and natural gas and improve environmental quality and state and regional energy security"
16 years and billions of "green" dollars later, natural gas-fired ( a fossil fuel) electrical generation supplying New England in 2022 amounts to 4% above the 16-year average NG generation.
Fossil fuel generation has grown! The retail price of electricity has increased! The legislative declaration of 2007 is "The Big Lie"
Not one more taxpayer or ratepayer cent for this swindle!
Comment
Yes Dan and those reparations would extend beyond electricity bills and include a refund for all the taxpayer funded subsidies, all other costs stemming from these crimes, realized and unrealized losses due to dropped home values, job losses due to proliferation of "green" harming the economy and punitive damages for the purveyors of the fraud and their accomplices.
If we had actual people representatives in state government, they would demand an accounting of the ratepayer money that has been spent on this crime scene and provide reparations to the people of Maine.

If the wind energy act's promises were audited, i.e., its documented promises compared to the documented reality that has ensued since, the only rightful next step would be to wipe it off the books. It can now be seen clearly that after 16 years of incessant lies, the wind energy act was a totalitarian move against the people of Maine for the benefit of a powerful monied few, mostly from away. The disgraceful Aroostook wind project plans and the disgraceful power lines connecting them to Massachusetts, is but the latest example, and one that a determined public can stop. Take off the gloves.
the Maine Wind Act is a total failure. The New England generation by natural gas has gone up 4% and the retail sales of electricity has gone down 4%.
We are paying big money for nothing, and it will only get worse as interest rates go up because federal subsidies going forward will be from government borrowed money.
Natural gas must be allowed to replace wind, solar and battery storage by eliminating RGGI, Power Purchase Agreements with CMP and Versant, Net Energy Billing and borrowed money subsidies. BTW, that would enable a fair, competitive market to reduce prices dramatically.
Stop listening and bobbleheading to the NRCM, Sierra Club, Know Nothing legislators, the media non-experts and university educated activists!
We need immediate change.
A few months ago, there were no bids from developers to build a FLOATING offshore wind system, about 30 miles off the coast of Scotland.
Developers knew the cost per installed MW would have been too high, and the price at which they could sell their wholesale electricity, after subsidies, would have been too high.
IF MAINE WERE TO GO OUT FOR BIDS FOR ITS 3000 MW OF FLOATING OFFSHORE WIND SYSTEMS BY 2040, IT IS HIGHLY LIKELY THE COST OF PRODUCING ELECTRICITY WOULD BE ABOUT 40 c/kWh, before subsidies, about 20 c/kWh, after subsidies, the price at which developers would sell to utilities
That very expensive electricity would add at least 10% to the electric bills of over-regulated, over-taxed, already-struggling Maine households; commercial/industrial rates would not be increased to ensure companies would not have to leave the state to survive; THOSE JOB LOSSES would more than wipe out any job gains from the temporary erection of wind turbines

(excerpts) From Part 1 – On Maine’s Wind Law “Once the committee passed the wind energy bill on to the full House and Senate, lawmakers there didn’t even debate it. They passed it unanimously and with no discussion. House Majority Leader Hannah Pingree, a Democrat from North Haven, says legislators probably didn’t know how many turbines would be constructed in Maine if the law’s goals were met." . – Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting, August 2010 https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-power-bandwagon-hits-bumps-in-the-road-3/From Part 2 – On Wind and Oil Yet using wind energy doesn’t lower dependence on imported foreign oil. That’s because the majority of imported oil in Maine is used for heating and transportation. And switching our dependence from foreign oil to Maine-produced electricity isn’t likely to happen very soon, says Bartlett. “Right now, people can’t switch to electric cars and heating – if they did, we’d be in trouble.” So was one of the fundamental premises of the task force false, or at least misleading?" https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-swept-task-force-set-the-rules/From Part 3 – On Wind-Required New Transmission Lines Finally, the building of enormous, high-voltage transmission lines that the regional electricity system operator says are required to move substantial amounts of wind power to markets south of Maine was never even discussed by the task force – an omission that Mills said will come to haunt the state.“If you try to put 2,500 or 3,000 megawatts in northern or eastern Maine – oh, my god, try to build the transmission!” said Mills. “It’s not just the towers, it’s the lines – that’s when I begin to think that the goal is a little farfetched.” https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/flaws-in-bill-like-skating-with-dull-skates/
