I'm part of the group that's battling the Bowers Mountain project (aka Champlain Wind) in the Downeast Lakes watershed (between Grand Lake Stream and Lakeville). Our name is the Partnership for the Preservation of the Downeast Lakes Watershed. First Wind has just officially filed its permit application; the ball is rolling now. For more info, visit: www.ppdlw.org We're asking people to request a public hearing. You have to do it asap, as it has to be in writing, and must be received by LURC by March 28th! After the fantastic legislative session in Freeport last month, it seems momentum is building. Are we nearing a tipping point in awareness and opinion? Is it possible that enough people in Maine are finally getting up the learning curve to a point where things can move? The ice is about to melt on all the lakes. Maybe the time has come, finally for things to move on wind. I sure hope so. Something has to give.
