  • The reality is - Wind and solar have huge Federal subsidies - Far more than the Investment Tax Credits, the Carbon Tax Credits,  and production tax credits = They have received actual grant money - $34 billion dollars worth -and USDOE loan guarantees that amount to hundreds of billions of dollar tax payer dollars.  And please don't forget  - Every dollar the US spends - .42 cents of it is borrowed!  We cannot keep doing this just to try to secure Mr. Obama's climate change legacy when 65% of all global emissions are from developing countries - We have come a long way in Maine when it comes to reducing emissions -50% is from the transportation sector, and wind and solar power - 25% and 15% respectively of stated capacity, is all sold to southern New England - at anywhere from a 5.7 to 6.8 cent a kilowatt hour premium. I am all for home solar - But the business model used by solar companies must be changed before it is worth installing.  It makes no sense to put something on your roof or on your grounds that someone else owns - If any tax advantage is to be continued - It should only be available to the homeowner!  Sadly, or actually, we live in a beautiful cold winter state and cannot rely on electricity to stay warm, but I have to say your post is reminiscent of the scare tactics used by the Baldacci administration to frighten Republicans into passing the expedited wind law without as much as a public hearing and without presenting the facts.  John Baldacci's reward? Vice Chair of Avangrid, Iberdrola and CMP's holding company!

From the Article:

Trump’s energy policy proposals are entirely focused on fossil-fuel production. He plans to "unleash America’s $50 trillion in untapped shale, oil, and natural gas reserves, plus hundreds of years in clean coal reserves".

Remember, with this comes the chance of Fracking exploration under our mountain areas in New England. Though Maine's Geologist states there are no reserves in Maine, that does not mean they will not be attempting to explore with drilling rigs or whatever it takes.

Another threat to Maine and Northern New England's beauty as New Brunswick claims to have Shale Oil & Gas reserves of potential value right up to Maine's border.

(excerpts) From Part 1 – On Maine’s Wind Law “Once the committee passed the wind energy bill on to the full House and Senate, lawmakers there didn’t even debate it. They passed it unanimously and with no discussion. House Majority Leader Hannah Pingree, a Democrat from North Haven, says legislators probably didn’t know how many turbines would be constructed in Maine if the law’s goals were met." . – Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting, August 2010 https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-power-bandwagon-hits-bumps-in-the-road-3/From Part 2 – On Wind and Oil Yet using wind energy doesn’t lower dependence on imported foreign oil. That’s because the majority of imported oil in Maine is used for heating and transportation. And switching our dependence from foreign oil to Maine-produced electricity isn’t likely to happen very soon, says Bartlett. “Right now, people can’t switch to electric cars and heating – if they did, we’d be in trouble.” So was one of the fundamental premises of the task force false, or at least misleading?" https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-swept-task-force-set-the-rules/From Part 3 – On Wind-Required New Transmission Lines Finally, the building of enormous, high-voltage transmission lines that the regional electricity system operator says are required to move substantial amounts of wind power to markets south of Maine was never even discussed by the task force – an omission that Mills said will come to haunt the state.“If you try to put 2,500 or 3,000 megawatts in northern or eastern Maine – oh, my god, try to build the transmission!” said Mills. “It’s not just the towers, it’s the lines – that’s when I begin to think that the goal is a little farfetched.” https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/flaws-in-bill-like-skating-with-dull-skates/
