OMB also requested a 30 percent cut in grants to states and a 20 percent reduction in EPA’s workforce through buy-outs and layoffs. In total, President Donald Trump is calling for a roughly 25 percent cut to EPA’s budget — about $2 billion.
I agree...the work of most agencies should be done in the private sector....the federal employee unions are an obstacle....States should collect all taxes and the IRS needs to be eliminated (State's costs Reimbursed by treasury...)
The energy tax credits must be eliminated and let free market conditions prevail....the heavily paid lobbyists are the obstacles.
In that a lot of agencies are test or trial in the beginning, if they have value and serve a purpose to the people, they should be contracted out to the private sector with government oversight. Government is not suppose compete when other alternatives could be implemented. Though not all would be able to, many could. Maybe with competitive wages at a lower cost to the public. Some competing companies could lead to improvements of services or better cost efficiencies and de-politicalization.
Most agencies need to be put on what is called "Zero based budgeting"...which includes a plan to start with their "justification" for existance...with non-agency based oversight etc...) dollars and go from there...and a 3-6 month plan for elimination or reduction to their justified existence... if anything. his will give (to be fair) a few months for employees to get re-employed, retrained, etc...
If this were done, most agencies would not exist...
@Robert Powers: The military use to fund, defund its units in the same way as the government. First Justify the need, when done if the money was not spent it was returned though it was hard to justify it again when it was needed taking nearly 2-3 request cycles. Some of our military budget could be cut or reappropriated to better use. It is the Method of appropriations that creates wasteful spending.
Yes, DOE should be on chopping block next. Every department should face the same scrutiny. Cut the wasteful spending and trim the budgets. Efficiency in energy AND government.
As a former Federal employee, I agree with this 100%. We were literally ordered to justify spending increases, budgets and staffing plans based on global warming/climate change....with NO justification except to increase staffing & funding.....made me angry....it is about time to correct this!
The Department of Energy should be next, as it wasted at least $10 billion in grants to build concentrated solar power, CSP, systems in the US southwest.
Much of that money was handed to foreign companies
None of these systems have met their design specifications regarding production.
