STATEMENT BY SECRETARY GRANHOLM ON THE SENATE’S PASSAGE OF THE INFLATION REDUCTION ACT OF 2022

WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Secretary of Energy Jennifer M. Granholm issued the following statement today following the Senate’s passage of the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022:

“President Biden entered office with a pledge to build a new economy powered by clean energy—one that lowers costs for American families, creates good-paying jobs for American workers, and increases our energy independence. Thanks to the Senate’s passage of the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022, the Biden-Harris administration is on the cusp of delivering on that pledge. The IRA’s monumental investments in clean energy and decarbonization technologies will position the United States to lead a global market on track to reach a minimum $23 trillion by the end of this decade, while revitalizing domestic manufacturing and employing millions more American workers. These clean energy tax credits will make cost-saving products like EVs, rooftop solar, and heat pumps far more affordable, so the average household can immediately enjoy the benefits of the cheap, clean energy revolution. And they will give us a bulwark against both the volatility of fossil fuel markets and the existential threat of climate change. In short, this will be the most consequential energy legislation in decades, and the most significant federal climate action ever. I look forward to watching President Biden make history and begin a new American century with the stroke of his pen.”

Penny,

Russia just signed a $30 billion, turnkey contract to build four 1100 MW nuclear units at a site in Egypt

Russia is also very active in building nuclear power plants.

China builds coal plants. Russia builds gas plants. America builds solar/wind plants.

The energy strength advantage index goes to China and Russia.

We are about to enter the Dark Ages.  History really does repeat itself.

To put it bluntly, the bill and above statement is nothing but bullsh*t, pure and simple. There is no other way to explain it, and those that delight in it like VP Harris and the trolls of the senate showed what vile excuses for power hungry sub-humans they really are!

The Investment Tax Credit/Production Tax Credit for wind and solar has expired... 14 times. The IRA just extended (and even expanded) it for the 14th time.
30 years ago the ITC/PTC was supposed to spawn a fledgling “industry,” you know, a chance to get started. It is now the most heinous teet entrenched in the Internal Revenue Code's udder. More wind turbines and solar panels are actually a boon for Joe Manchin’s Coal friends, because they drive up demand for (and electricity costs for) peak load and base load power plants. He held out, played it well, and he tucked it to us again.
Chuck Grassley (imagine his Cheshire Cat grin) got to vote against it for the first time, despite his historically almost singlehandedly being responsible for its perennial revival.

Pardon the pun, but "how rich" is it that the legislation also contains funding for an additional 87,000 Internal Revenue Service agents?!?

Reduce costs?

That is the sam crap Europeans were told 22 years ago

All became nothing but high-cost grief, after Putin stopped the low-cost natural gas at $280/1000 m3

Now the NATURAL GAS price is SEVEN TIMES HIGHER

AT THOSE HIGH ENERGY PRICES, THE EU WILL BE TOTALLY UNCOMPETITIVE with huge trade deficits

Freezing in the dark, while hungry is all they can look forward to this winter and the next winter and the next winter

(excerpts) From Part 1 – On Maine’s Wind Law “Once the committee passed the wind energy bill on to the full House and Senate, lawmakers there didn’t even debate it. They passed it unanimously and with no discussion. House Majority Leader Hannah Pingree, a Democrat from North Haven, says legislators probably didn’t know how many turbines would be constructed in Maine if the law’s goals were met." . – Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting, August 2010 https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-power-bandwagon-hits-bumps-in-the-road-3/From Part 2 – On Wind and Oil Yet using wind energy doesn’t lower dependence on imported foreign oil. That’s because the majority of imported oil in Maine is used for heating and transportation. And switching our dependence from foreign oil to Maine-produced electricity isn’t likely to happen very soon, says Bartlett. “Right now, people can’t switch to electric cars and heating – if they did, we’d be in trouble.” So was one of the fundamental premises of the task force false, or at least misleading?" https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-swept-task-force-set-the-rules/From Part 3 – On Wind-Required New Transmission Lines Finally, the building of enormous, high-voltage transmission lines that the regional electricity system operator says are required to move substantial amounts of wind power to markets south of Maine was never even discussed by the task force – an omission that Mills said will come to haunt the state.“If you try to put 2,500 or 3,000 megawatts in northern or eastern Maine – oh, my god, try to build the transmission!” said Mills. “It’s not just the towers, it’s the lines – that’s when I begin to think that the goal is a little farfetched.” https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/flaws-in-bill-like-skating-with-dull-skates/
