The People Need Time Too
The proposition asked: Do you want wind farms upon the mountaintops in your town ? How many of us are expecting our day to vote on this is forthcoming ?
Well, the day of decision is coming, but I challenge you to understand what you’re being asked to vote on, or to even know if you are voting for or against wind farms.
A wind ordinance, a stew of words, phrases and terms completely foreign to even the most educated, will be presented to you. I don’t know when, but surely, the vast hours being spent to write it means it will be very complicated.
Our moratorium on wind power development states “ the Town of Dixfield will determine the most appropriate methods to regulate wind energy facilities and prepare appropriate municipal ordinances to achieve such.”
Since the appropriate amount of time in preparing this document appears to be the entire period of our 6 month moratorium, we, as citizens, should be allowed an appropriate amount of time to review, study and try to understand it. Say 6 months.
Therefore, our current moratorium should be extended an additional 6 months so that we may determine the most appropriate method to decide whether we want them or not.
Citizens, BEWARE, a site ordinance is also being written. This document, which we will be asked to vote on, will surely have an influence on determining whether wind farms are allowed here, although disguised in a way so that you won’t know this. Again we must demand a 6 month review period on this ordinance before voting.
