President-elect's loathing for wind turbines is deep and personal

Trump’s loathing for renewables — especially bat-slicing, bird-chomping eco-crucifixes — is deep and personal.

Trump hates wind farms because they ruined the countryside round his golf courses in Scotland. When he met Nigel Farage recently, he urged him to campaign against them.

EPA Nominee Scott Pruitt threatens future of global warming agenda

Pruitt is a well-established skeptic of anthropogenic climate change theory, having co-authored an op-ed at National Review earlier this year in which he wrote, “Healthy debate is the lifeblood of American democracy, and global warming has inspired one of the major policy debates of our time. That debate is far from settled.”

“Scientists continue to disagree about the degree and extent of global warming and its connection to the actions of mankind,” he added. “That debate should be encouraged — in classrooms, public forums, and the halls of Congress. It should not be silenced with threats of prosecution. Dissent is not a crime.”

Paula, We can only hope that you are right.

Wiki leaks or Russian hacking, this election cracked the door and shed some light on the evil sides of those we elect to represent us (or could have) and those that work behind the scenes to influence and the nasty tricks.    So that part of the election, using Hillary's words "At this point, what does it matter" ?  If our reporters and news media was doing a GOOD job, there would be a constant flow of FOAA and FOIA requests.

This is why we have 3 branches of government, to prevent an assumed dominance and control. This is what would have happened if either Bernie or Hillary came to the office. Though not a personal control but a control over this nation by Globalism. Even our Supreme Court would become subservient to a Global court.  Trump asserts many Ideas as we all do or may have at one time or another in our lives. Now to see if as he has stated, he can put "Common Sense" back into government. The halls of Congress is where the failure is occurring. Drain the Swamp of corruption.

As we have seen in Maine, Dems & Reps came together against LePage many times as a check against an effort of tyranny.

Deborah, I too am concerned - but I'm cautiously optimistic that some things will change for the better. Obama wasn't able to do all the things he wanted to and Trump won't be able to either. Time will tell if he really will put the country first or moneyed interests first. Unfortunately the older I get the more pessimistic I get after seeing all the less than honorable ways of people in government service. Most see it as a position of power for themselves and not as a position of service to the people. Trump certainly has experience in working with all kinds of people to accomplish all kinds of things. I'm guessing (betting) that he is more flexible and realistic than his bombastic speeches would have you believe. Regardless, I think more people are looking at our leaders with eyes open more than in the past and really thinking about the consequences of policies and laws. My fantasy is that this is the end for Maine's expedited law, that someone in the Maine legislature gets the ball rolling and this nightmare ends and we can all wake up and go on from here with more respect from and for each other and for our State's tough and independent heritage.

I am aware of this and would find it a ray of hope except that Donald Trump's preferences all, including IWTs, appear from the evidence so far to be heavily tied to how they directly affect him, his sense of control/power, and his wealth.  My great fear is that, regardless of the issue, and regardless of the harm, Trump will use his wealth/influence/power in ways that will do great harm to others while, perhaps, at least for the time being, not harming himself or his interests.  We see this in the extreme in his endeavors/words/deeds, but the same is also very present in the quiet, behind the scenes efforts of Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, Bill Clinton and the Democratic Party in general.  The abundance of greed and self serving egocentrism exists across party lines.  It is not new but has been increasing since the 1940's as it did at the end of the prior century.  The greatest tragedy is, in my mind, an abominable educational system that is primarily designed and controlled to produce individuals who are not experienced nor encouraged to question, to analyze, to think deeply, to think beyond what they are told and conditioned to think/believe.  It's convenient for those who are ruthless in their own need and desire to control and remain in control - of money, resources, the law.

Maine Center For Public Interest Reporting – Three Part Series: A CRITICAL LOOK AT MAINE’S WIND ACT

******** IF LINKS BELOW DON'T WORK, GOOGLE THEM*********

(excerpts) From Part 1 – On Maine’s Wind Law “Once the committee passed the wind energy bill on to the full House and Senate, lawmakers there didn’t even debate it. They passed it unanimously and with no discussion. House Majority Leader Hannah Pingree, a Democrat from North Haven, says legislators probably didn’t know how many turbines would be constructed in Maine if the law’s goals were met." . – Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting, August 2010 https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-power-bandwagon-hits-bumps-in-the-road-3/From Part 2 – On Wind and Oil Yet using wind energy doesn’t lower dependence on imported foreign oil. That’s because the majority of imported oil in Maine is used for heating and transportation. And switching our dependence from foreign oil to Maine-produced electricity isn’t likely to happen very soon, says Bartlett. “Right now, people can’t switch to electric cars and heating – if they did, we’d be in trouble.” So was one of the fundamental premises of the task force false, or at least misleading?" https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-swept-task-force-set-the-rules/From Part 3 – On Wind-Required New Transmission Lines Finally, the building of enormous, high-voltage transmission lines that the regional electricity system operator says are required to move substantial amounts of wind power to markets south of Maine was never even discussed by the task force – an omission that Mills said will come to haunt the state.“If you try to put 2,500 or 3,000 megawatts in northern or eastern Maine – oh, my god, try to build the transmission!” said Mills. “It’s not just the towers, it’s the lines – that’s when I begin to think that the goal is a little farfetched.” https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/flaws-in-bill-like-skating-with-dull-skates/
