The NECPL will originate at the U.S.-Canadian border and travel approximately 97 miles underwater down Lake Champlain to Benson, Vermont, and then be buried along town and state roads and railroad rights-of-way or on land owned by TDI New England for approximately 57 miles to a new converter station to be built in Ludlow, Vermont.

Dumb, dumber and dumbest. Massachusetts already imports from out-of-state over 38% of its power, mostly from Canada, and imports are growing. For the past few years imports have been over 50% of the states load during the winter. Hydro Quebec has said it can deliver competitively priced hydro during the non-winter months. Pilgrim nuclear currently supplies almost 10% of the states power and it will shut down in 2019. Where is Massachusetts going to get power when its domestic generation is incapable of supplying the states' load and HQ can't deliver in the winter months? Massachusetts' energy policies and mandates are creating grid instability and cost problems for the entire New England region.

Isnt' this going to connect to the grid set up to distribute Vt. Yankee power? Champlain bottom is flat and relatively shallow; and a lot cheaper than land based R.O.W.
Maine had a chance to get this line and the D's wouldn't let LePage negotiate a deal, so once again we miss out. I still think my original proposal to run the line down 95 and use the power to run a commuter monorail and electric vehicle recharging stations was a viable one. OH well.
