"Maine Senate president aims to cap electric rates"
AUGUSTA, Maine — An effort to cap electric rates in Maine at 10 cents per kilowatt hour or less likely will go to a vote by the Legislature’s Energy Committee on Tuesday.
But the bill, LD 1339, by Senate President Mike Thibodeau, R-Winterport, also calls for the suspension of the state’s renewable energy portfolio requirements if suppliers cannot provide a 10-cent rate while meeting the portfolio requirements.

This sounds like an increase to 10¢ per KWH to me, given that delivery is another fee added to this and generally exceeds the product cost on CMP's grid, are we looking at 20¢ with this bill? Though it says OR LESS, that would soon be justified away to the upper limit. Something that both CMP and Emera, would add to their stash of cash while seeking justification to have yet another increase for the so called Reliability Upgrades?
With such an excess of generation in this state from all sources combined at greater than twice what Maine needs a cap at 6-7 cents per KWH would be a step in the right direction, if it were true that Wind and Solar did NOT add to the cost of power to Maine's electric rates. With each new bill presented where energy is an issue there always seems to be a profit to be had for the corporations.
LD 1513 (a dangerous bill in many ways) will open the floodgates if passed, LD 1339 will open a door to justify yet another increase.
