Maine DOT employees removed close to 200 yard signs protesting the Sun Edison and Everpower wind projects proposed for the Moosehead region. These signs, which read SAVE MOOSEHEAD SAY NO TO WIND were removed from private properties, including business properties. These signs were put up by members and supporters of the Moosehead Region Futures Committee. When MDOT employees were asked who ordered this, they said "Augusta". Some of the individuals removing the signs said they were personally against wind projects but were ordered to proceed. And by the way - VOTE NO ON QUESTION 1 signs placed right next to anti- wind signs were not removed - nor were some signs promoting a religious camp. Is this what America has it come to? Have our first amendment rights been taken away? Is free speech and the right to protest gone? Does the wind industry now control all of Augusta?

I guess I'll fire off an email to the DOT and ask what they know about this.
Signs are being put back - 200 more coming this week for more coverage. Press is being notified.

Please use.
Make bigger signs and put them back out there. If you have a game camera, set it up to catch the perpetrator on film.
Hire Private Investigator(s) at this stage to have a targets in Legal Prosecutions against the loss of First Amendment Rights at this stage. Lawyers are useless in this regard . They can help once the offender is targeted by adequate evidence!
The only thing these bastards understand is direct confrontational civil disobedience and direct action!
Follow the lead of Friends of Lincoln Lakes and Earth First activists from the 2010 actions, and start the protests....It is effective.
The "Peoples Republic of Maine" and its PL-661 illegal wind law politicians and Wind Mafia from First wind et al are alive and unfortunately active , always remember that...
Get Tough Maine......!!
There are numerous contacts available on how to make civil disobedience work for the Moosehead Groups.
Being Nice will not remove the Wind Law and it impacts in Moosehead, remember that!
The cards are stacked against the affected citizens and wind targeted communities in Maine, but there are ways to be effective.
Just talked with a couple of Board members from the Moosehead Region Futures Committee in Greenville and Rockwood. They believe that this confiscation was orchestrated by Plum Creek and/or SUNE. Plum Creek granted First Wind an easement for wind development during the final minutes of the settlement negotiations over the Plum Creek real estate development project - groups such as NRCM were very supportive of this rezoning by Plum Creek. Saving Maine has been working with the Moosehead Region Futures Committee for a few months and has provided funding for a number of activities including the signs and other public outreach activities. Tux Turkel from the PPH is visiting the area next week to meet with effected parties as part of a story he's developing about the impact of the proposed SunEdison and EverPower projects on the Moosehead region. Stay tuned next week for more on this blatant act by wind interests to deny our 1st amendment rights, drown local opposition to these projects.

(excerpts) From Part 1 – On Maine’s Wind Law “Once the committee passed the wind energy bill on to the full House and Senate, lawmakers there didn’t even debate it. They passed it unanimously and with no discussion. House Majority Leader Hannah Pingree, a Democrat from North Haven, says legislators probably didn’t know how many turbines would be constructed in Maine if the law’s goals were met." . – Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting, August 2010 https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-power-bandwagon-hits-bumps-in-the-road-3/From Part 2 – On Wind and Oil Yet using wind energy doesn’t lower dependence on imported foreign oil. That’s because the majority of imported oil in Maine is used for heating and transportation. And switching our dependence from foreign oil to Maine-produced electricity isn’t likely to happen very soon, says Bartlett. “Right now, people can’t switch to electric cars and heating – if they did, we’d be in trouble.” So was one of the fundamental premises of the task force false, or at least misleading?" https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-swept-task-force-set-the-rules/From Part 3 – On Wind-Required New Transmission Lines Finally, the building of enormous, high-voltage transmission lines that the regional electricity system operator says are required to move substantial amounts of wind power to markets south of Maine was never even discussed by the task force – an omission that Mills said will come to haunt the state.“If you try to put 2,500 or 3,000 megawatts in northern or eastern Maine – oh, my god, try to build the transmission!” said Mills. “It’s not just the towers, it’s the lines – that’s when I begin to think that the goal is a little farfetched.” https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/flaws-in-bill-like-skating-with-dull-skates/
