If I were governor of Maine, I would offer a deal to Charlie Baker of Massachusetts that could make NECEC the best for the both state electricity consumers The word on the street is Massachusetts' utilities will be paying 5 and half cents per kilowatt-hour for the electricity supply from Hydro-Quebec which is  4 cents per kilowatt-hour less than the ISO-NE wholesale market price, meaning the utility receives 4 cents per kilowatt-hour by reselling the Hydro-Quebec purchased power to the ISO-NE wholesale market,. This is a great windfall that becomes a rate reduction for Mass. utility customers. But none of this happens with Maine people kept from a share of this bonus money. And if the pie isn't sweet enough now, the Mass. utility customers would be gleeful to know the wholesale price for electricity is going up next year making the differential between HQ prices and ISO-NE prices going up to 13 cents a kilowatt-hour. 


    A deal where Maine would receive a share of this windfall through CMP and Versant shouldn't be hard to broker. Compare our customer base with Massachusetts' customer base and arrange the split correspondingly.


   It is becoming painfully obvious that electric supply prices from the wholesale market are never going to be below 5 and a half cents per kilo-watt hour ever again. Inflation strikes all markets.


   This provides Maine and Massachusetts customers instant relief once NECEC is up and running. If people can't live with that, they must state where their values are and why they would deny a significant rate reduction for Maine people burdened with ever escalating electricity costs.


    And it doesn't hurt that this power is not intermittent.
