KIBBY MOUNTAIN PROJECT SOLD TO LS POWER'S AFFILIATE HELIX GENERATION LLC

TransCanada Corp. has sold its Kibby Wind project.  Was the deal sweetened by the Franklin County TIF?  My guess is absolutely - More foregone taxpayer dollars in TransCanada's pocket!

Does anyone know he answer to this?  I know there was a 3 year study of killing of birds and bats for the Bull Hill project paid for by First Wind who also selected the consultant to do the study. I sent the results to Jim Weigand who evaluated the methodology - It should come as no surprise that his assessment of the methodology was that the study was bogus.  I do not know if DEP requires any other kind of follow-up studies.

Does the DEP do routine follow up inspections of these sites to monitor operations (or non-operations) and environmental impacts?

Have seen Kibby several times this year, and there are always some inoperable turbines.

Kibby in relationship to proposed 1200 foot ROW - White line is a 2 mile line from the northern turbine - Yellow Canadian Border - Orangish New CMP proposed ROW

Unsure, but they should not be permitted for more land use until those three locations are used for their purpose of producing.

Can anyone confirm whether all the Kibby turbines are operational? One burned and I heard two others were down without any plan to repair them. If this true, it's proof that Transcanada was lying through their teeth when they testified at the permit hearing that the Kibby project had been whittled down to the absolute bare minimum number of turbines to be economically viable. Just a thought.

Have to wonder........... Is this company "Employee-Owned" like Cianbo where the Top Management and Engineers are the actual Owners, not the hands on deplorables ?

"Founded in 1990, LS Power is an employee-owned, independent power company with offices in New YorkNew JerseyMissouriCalifornia and Texas. LS Power is a developer, owner, operator and investor in power generation and electric transmission infrastructure throughout the United States. Since inception, LS Power has developed, constructed, managed or acquired more than 30,000 MW of competitive power generation and 500 miles of transmission infrastructure, for which it has raised over $30 billion in debt and equity financing. $30 billion in debt ? Another SunEdison ? or is Kibby just another overpriced Pawn in Corporate America ?

If Franklin county should provide any benefit to any corporation or entity it should be the Saddleback Mountain Foundation. The Canadians need no help from us as they already prevail in negotiations, acquisitions , trade deals. I have pointed this out for years that it doesn't matter if their dollar is at par with ours or at a 25% discount like today.  They always accomplish their goal and they win.

(excerpts) From Part 1 – On Maine’s Wind Law “Once the committee passed the wind energy bill on to the full House and Senate, lawmakers there didn’t even debate it. They passed it unanimously and with no discussion. House Majority Leader Hannah Pingree, a Democrat from North Haven, says legislators probably didn’t know how many turbines would be constructed in Maine if the law’s goals were met." . – Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting, August 2010 https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-power-bandwagon-hits-bumps-in-the-road-3/From Part 2 – On Wind and Oil Yet using wind energy doesn’t lower dependence on imported foreign oil. That’s because the majority of imported oil in Maine is used for heating and transportation. And switching our dependence from foreign oil to Maine-produced electricity isn’t likely to happen very soon, says Bartlett. “Right now, people can’t switch to electric cars and heating – if they did, we’d be in trouble.” So was one of the fundamental premises of the task force false, or at least misleading?" https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-swept-task-force-set-the-rules/From Part 3 – On Wind-Required New Transmission Lines Finally, the building of enormous, high-voltage transmission lines that the regional electricity system operator says are required to move substantial amounts of wind power to markets south of Maine was never even discussed by the task force – an omission that Mills said will come to haunt the state.“If you try to put 2,500 or 3,000 megawatts in northern or eastern Maine – oh, my god, try to build the transmission!” said Mills. “It’s not just the towers, it’s the lines – that’s when I begin to think that the goal is a little farfetched.” https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/flaws-in-bill-like-skating-with-dull-skates/
