So, this photoshopped depiction of wind turbines on Mt. Katahdin might be a bit extreme, but it makes a strong warning to Katahdin Region people and everyone who loves the unique natural and scenic resources of our beautiful state! The Molunkus project proposed by First Wind (now SunEdison) will be 500+ ft tall turbines just 15 air miles from the border of Baxter State Park. The new transmission line from Oakfield to Chester runs past all the ridges rising above the East Branch of the Penobscot, condemning all the ridges to being destroyed by industrial wind sites. To the southwest of the park are low ridges where wind sites could tie into the existing powerline ROW coming from Ripogenus. If we don't step forward and tell our legislators to stop this scourge, we will see Katahdin-the mighty icon of our state-surrounded by ugly, useless wind turbines.
