                             — Or if every property owner with good solar gain

                                                  installed rooftop photovoltaic panels,

we could meet 85 percent of our electricity needs.

The one thing this Article does NOT point out is the fact that these devices require an upfront investment that only the wealthy peoples of Maine can readily afford. Even with Tax Incentives, those that do not have that sort of income seldom pay or pay little in taxes that would get them any tax incentive. In order to get anything at all from these incentives the installer may need to take that incentive in lieu of a full payment. Even then the remaining costs and upkeep are prohibitive. This investment type is tantamount to paying your electric bill up front, and though it may add value to the home if you are fortunate to own or are able to resell a home, these devices will undoubtedly be depreciated over the course of time based on their remaining live expectancy.
Below is a conversation excerpt from a friend in Maine
So my sister calls from South Carolina and says she wants to put solar panels on her roof.

This would be out of character for her. She wanted my feedback. I asked her to send me the contract that she was being asked to sign. I got the contract and looked into it.

Wow a trail of this company owned by this company owned by this company. The SC company was owned by Solar City the largest installer in California. Solar City was in trouble from lawsuits from people with panels on their roofs. Tesla is now aligned with Solar City.

Turns out the origin of this corporation is private. It was incorporated before 9/11 as an intermediary between a land owner with oil and drillers extractors. After 9/11 and the wars the company did amazing business get into oil field all over the world.

This was possible because of the realignments in oil countries. Perhaps you read about a person caught in the off shore banking sting lately that did some horrid things to get the contract signed. This is the parent of solar city. They dealt with military dictators with sex, drugs and cash. They signed contracts.

Of course, oil prices dropped and folks looking to buy oil wells are few and far between. They took their profits and put it into solar.

The contract is a lease to cover your roof with panels. The Home owner gets what they pay per kilowatt for the first year. Then they become wholesalers and what you get drops. The Home Owner ends up paying two bills from the power company and solar city. You buy in 50% the cost of the panels up front. $11,000 for my sister. Then they deduct, after the first year, a maintenance fee. They repair, replace, fix and clean the panels. They do not belong to the home owner.

In VT, and probably most states that allow these deals with the solar scammers, the solar company gets to sell the REC's

Maine Center For Public Interest Reporting – Three Part Series: A CRITICAL LOOK AT MAINE’S WIND ACT

******** IF LINKS BELOW DON'T WORK, GOOGLE THEM*********

(excerpts) From Part 1 – On Maine’s Wind Law “Once the committee passed the wind energy bill on to the full House and Senate, lawmakers there didn’t even debate it. They passed it unanimously and with no discussion. House Majority Leader Hannah Pingree, a Democrat from North Haven, says legislators probably didn’t know how many turbines would be constructed in Maine if the law’s goals were met." . – Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting, August 2010 https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-power-bandwagon-hits-bumps-in-the-road-3/From Part 2 – On Wind and Oil Yet using wind energy doesn’t lower dependence on imported foreign oil. That’s because the majority of imported oil in Maine is used for heating and transportation. And switching our dependence from foreign oil to Maine-produced electricity isn’t likely to happen very soon, says Bartlett. “Right now, people can’t switch to electric cars and heating – if they did, we’d be in trouble.” So was one of the fundamental premises of the task force false, or at least misleading?" https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-swept-task-force-set-the-rules/From Part 3 – On Wind-Required New Transmission Lines Finally, the building of enormous, high-voltage transmission lines that the regional electricity system operator says are required to move substantial amounts of wind power to markets south of Maine was never even discussed by the task force – an omission that Mills said will come to haunt the state.“If you try to put 2,500 or 3,000 megawatts in northern or eastern Maine – oh, my god, try to build the transmission!” said Mills. “It’s not just the towers, it’s the lines – that’s when I begin to think that the goal is a little farfetched.” https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/flaws-in-bill-like-skating-with-dull-skates/
