How did we get here? - Is it happening again?

"as to... The Wind whipped whining shattering glass of Solar Dreams afloat in the turbulence of a billion Turbines  ... "

Thoughts? or Warning?

Ending with: So sad for Maine!
As we strive to regain our local control at community levels over corporations or those businesses that would become such, I find it odd that we find ourselves once again asking government from above to interact and promote business with financial support from our tax dollars.

When we have not adopted any ordinances at our local levels on such issues of either wind or solar technologies, we are allowing ourselves to once again to become unprepared for a worse case scenario of a business or corporate dominance over our lands with the lure of a new technology. One that requires our financial support as seed money to give it the push it needs to get started. One that without proper local ordinances of protection and statutes from above that are all to often tweaked to meet the needs of those corporations that would impose their abilities to profit again by occupation of our land and its remaining beauty.

Such was the case with Wind energy, going from a few local self sustaining persons meeting their needs to what is now and industrial scourge upon Maine's hills, open flat areas and Mountains. Scars upon this land that mankind can not restore to what Nature created. A protection that we have fought to preserve and or recreate at our local level for our local needs.
Solar, albeit as an end product, like wind are both seemingly non-polluting sources of future energy. While we lavish with the "Good Feeling" of being or becoming a more eco-friendly society, we should remind ourselves that somewhere, some other nation is exacting upon this planet the same amount of pollution quantities and types that we have displaced from our nation.

As you cry in outrage or dismay over the recent failure of what is to become but a "Seed Bill" on Solar in Maine, one that seemingly will be for our overall benefit, remember that this is the time when communities should be enacting protections for their land and what they wish their communities to look like for the next 20 years and possibly beyond.
Do you wish to have acres of land covered in reflective glass covering a conglomeration of toxic substances dug as minerals, processed, assembled in foreign factories, surrounding massive wind turbines on your hillsides and mountains and in your fields replacing crops of food?
All of this to serve, "Not Maine" ( @ 57%+ net export ) but the southern eastern seaboard! Serving those that have no concept of conservation as they demand more energy at our expense holding no concern for Maine's environment or the beauty it holds. A beauty and quality of life that so many desire but will soon find gone if we do not continue to work to protect it for us, our children and even them when they come as tourists to relax to regain their mental health and physical well being.

Solar and Wind can be integrated into the energy mix, however requiring less is the first key to being able to have them provide those needs. Local controls are needed over what can again become a corporate domination through regulatory laws from above. Seize the moment to set these into place.

As  one famous President said, "Ask not what your country can do for you". This is advisable now, in that we should ask ourselves what we can do for our country, starting with ourselves and our communities.

The solar bill that failed as (ONTP), is yet another flood gate waiting to burst, unless sufficient protections are contained within. Things that are given are often not appreciated as they are not earned and seldom protected, such will be the lure of taxpayer assisted Solar. Already there are plans aloof in Maine to impose taxes on those would be users of solar in Maine, as an energy sector competitor. The discussion has started, though not formally in any draft form of a bill for the legislature.
Net Metering is potentially going to go by the way-side without protections, so opening the door to the user to foot a very large expense that may not be recovered.

Look at all the things that are going on surrounding this bill, and assess the truth of what is said or promised.
Who is paying,
What are we paying with, When will we pay,
Where will this payment happen, and....
Why are we paying such a dear price.

Energy can neither be created nor destroyed. Only wasted.

So sad for MainE. is correct !

Maine Center For Public Interest Reporting – Three Part Series: A CRITICAL LOOK AT MAINE’S WIND ACT

(excerpts) From Part 1 – On Maine’s Wind Law “Once the committee passed the wind energy bill on to the full House and Senate, lawmakers there didn’t even debate it. They passed it unanimously and with no discussion. House Majority Leader Hannah Pingree, a Democrat from North Haven, says legislators probably didn’t know how many turbines would be constructed in Maine if the law’s goals were met." . – Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting, August 2010 https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-power-bandwagon-hits-bumps-in-the-road-3/From Part 2 – On Wind and Oil Yet using wind energy doesn’t lower dependence on imported foreign oil. That’s because the majority of imported oil in Maine is used for heating and transportation. And switching our dependence from foreign oil to Maine-produced electricity isn’t likely to happen very soon, says Bartlett. “Right now, people can’t switch to electric cars and heating – if they did, we’d be in trouble.” So was one of the fundamental premises of the task force false, or at least misleading?" https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-swept-task-force-set-the-rules/From Part 3 – On Wind-Required New Transmission Lines Finally, the building of enormous, high-voltage transmission lines that the regional electricity system operator says are required to move substantial amounts of wind power to markets south of Maine was never even discussed by the task force – an omission that Mills said will come to haunt the state.“If you try to put 2,500 or 3,000 megawatts in northern or eastern Maine – oh, my god, try to build the transmission!” said Mills. “It’s not just the towers, it’s the lines – that’s when I begin to think that the goal is a little farfetched.” https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/flaws-in-bill-like-skating-with-dull-skates/
