CMP explains the July increase in electric pricing, but, where is the PUC?, Where is the OPA? Where are the politicians that caused this mess?
There is no use hiding it from the public, CMP and Versant have disclosed the facts and the facts show legislators, media, climate activists and lobbyists were outright lying about wind, solar and batteries lowering electric prices. The cost of Net Energy Billing, a predominantly solar incentive, is displayed on utility bills, conveniently itemized as "Delivery Service" to deflect what it should read, or as Joe Purington, CMP CEO explains in plain English "Non-CMP Public Policy ($8.12): These are not CMP charges and we do not profit from them. Costs associated with the state’s net energy billing subsidies will add $6.11 to the average residential customer bill effective July 1. Public Policy costs also include costs associated with purchase power agreements, state-mandated low-income assistance programs and energy efficiency programs.

Perhaps it was wishful thinking that caused the well paid legislators to mislead the voters, but that excuse is irrational and honestly, unbelievable. They knew it was willful lying. They hid the truth so they could pass laws and gain favor from influential friends.

Every single renewable energy program passed along by legislators raises prices. There is not one legislator that can challenge that fact, not one. Their session votes are recorded and are publically available.

Penny,

The PUC is beholden to the Legislators. CMP is beholden to the PUC.

Guess who pays for the legislators

Guess who pays for the PUC

Guess who gets the CMP bills.

If the electric bills are sent out by CMP, can't they oversee the wording so that the public understands who is getting the money from "Delivery Service"?  Or is honesty against public policy?

It would be even better, if the $6.11/month were itemized regarding wind, solar, batteries, low-income, energy efficiency, etc

The cost of grid expansion/augmentation to accommodate wind, solar should be added, because utility is charged transmission services charge by ISO-NE.

The cost of curtailment/counteracting/balancing wind and solar variations BY OTHER GENERATING PLANTS ON THE GRID, should be added

(excerpts) From Part 1 – On Maine’s Wind Law “Once the committee passed the wind energy bill on to the full House and Senate, lawmakers there didn’t even debate it. They passed it unanimously and with no discussion. House Majority Leader Hannah Pingree, a Democrat from North Haven, says legislators probably didn’t know how many turbines would be constructed in Maine if the law’s goals were met." . – Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting, August 2010 https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-power-bandwagon-hits-bumps-in-the-road-3/From Part 2 – On Wind and Oil Yet using wind energy doesn’t lower dependence on imported foreign oil. That’s because the majority of imported oil in Maine is used for heating and transportation. And switching our dependence from foreign oil to Maine-produced electricity isn’t likely to happen very soon, says Bartlett. “Right now, people can’t switch to electric cars and heating – if they did, we’d be in trouble.” So was one of the fundamental premises of the task force false, or at least misleading?" https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-swept-task-force-set-the-rules/From Part 3 – On Wind-Required New Transmission Lines Finally, the building of enormous, high-voltage transmission lines that the regional electricity system operator says are required to move substantial amounts of wind power to markets south of Maine was never even discussed by the task force – an omission that Mills said will come to haunt the state.“If you try to put 2,500 or 3,000 megawatts in northern or eastern Maine – oh, my god, try to build the transmission!” said Mills. “It’s not just the towers, it’s the lines – that’s when I begin to think that the goal is a little farfetched.” https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/flaws-in-bill-like-skating-with-dull-skates/
