Cape Spin - Interesting Documentary on the Cape Wind battle
Our local library has a DVD copy of "Cape Spin: An American Power Struggle", a 2012 documentary film about the Cape Wind controversy. Gary and I watched it the other day, wondering if we would make it through to the end. It spins the true but almost unbelievable yarn of the epic ten year battle to build this controversial project. At times humorous, and at other times maddening, it was worthwhile, because it memorializes so many issues that we face, and shows that Mainers are not the only ones trying to slog through the conflicts of industrial wind development.
The film celebrates grass roots activism, and pokes fun at everyone from the hardened editors at the local and regional papers to the local kid in Hyannis who argues for both sides of the issue. No one is immune to their barbs.
If you can get hold if it, you'll recognize so many similarities to what we're facing in Maine and hopefully have a good laugh. It also confirms (for me anyway) that what is happening in Maine is worthy of a book and/or a film.
Unfortunately, it's not on Netflix or Amazon Prime (streaming) at the moment. It doesn't appear to be for sale on Amazon either. Maybe your library has it.
Here is a decent review of it from the Boston Globe that correctly warns that the film-makers do have an agenda. It is not perfect, but it's worth the watch to know that we are not alone in Maine.
