Biden Mandates More Ethanol in Gasoline, Expect Many Negative Repercussions

Expect higher food prices but little relief at the pump with Biden's latest questionable move to combat inflation...

Last Friday, Biden's EPA Mandated the Most Ethanol Use Ever.

The EPA, after gathering comments since releasing it proposed blending requirements in December, said Friday it will require refiners to blend 20.77 billion gallons of ethanol, biodiesel and other renewable fuel this year.

Additionally, the oil industry must blend 250 million more gallons of renewable fuel, both this year and next, after a federal court found the Obama administration inappropriately reduced the 2016 blending requirements.

The agency also denied roughly 70 exemptions for small refineries, many of which had been granted under former President Donald Trump.

Corn Growers Cheer

“The Biden EPA is to be commended for restoring sanity to the refinery exemption program,” Monte Shaw, the Iowa Renewable Fuel Association's executive director, said in a statement.

“These exemptions have never been justified and were simply being used to illegally undermine the RFS. We are grateful this long nightmare is over.”

Refiners Complain

But Chet Thompson, CEO of the American Fuel & Petrochemical Manufacturers, said the blending requirement for this year is "contrary to the administration’s claims to be doing everything in their power to provide relief to consumers."

"Unachievable mandates will needlessly raise fuel production costs and further threaten the viability of U.S. small refineries, both at the expense of consumers," Thompson said.

EPA Raises Ethanol Mandate for 2022

Also on Friday, the Wall Street Journal reported EPA Trims Ethanol Fuel Mandate for 2020-21 But Raises It for 2022

The Biden administration on Friday retroactively reduced the amount of ethanol that must be blended into gasoline for 2020 and 2021 but raised the level for 2022, saying the changes are aimed at helping boost domestic fuel supplies.

The agency can adjust these requirements retroactively, signaling to refiners how much they will have to spend to buy market credits that help them comply with obligations lingering from past years.

Both ethanol and corn prices have risen sharply, and cutting the 2022 mandate potentially could have lowered refiners’ business costs and led to lower prices at the pump, but likely by only a few cents a gallon, said analysts at research and consulting firm Rapidan Energy Group LLC.

Millions of acres are being pointlessly sacrificed just to grow corn to fuel gas-guzzling SUVs,” said Brett Hartl, government affairs director at the Center for Biological Diversity. “Meanwhile the EPA looks the other way as our ocean dead zones grow, water pollution worsens, and endangered species suffer.”

Expanded ethanol production under federal mandates raised corn prices by 30% and the prices of other crops by 20%, according to a report published earlier this year in the National Academy of SciencesThe report also said growing more corn for ethanol led to increased amounts of water pollutants from U.S. farms and negated ethanol’s climate benefits.

Biden’s Ethanol Gas Price Trick

Flashback April 12, 2022: Please consider Biden’s Ethanol Gas Price Trick

In Iowa on Tuesday, Mr. Biden announced an environmental waiver to allow sales of 15% ethanol gasoline blends (E15) this summer. The Clean Air Act prohibits this because higher ethanol blends can increase smog in hot weather. They can also erode older car engines, gas pumps, storage tanks and pipelines.

In 2019 Mr. Trump directed the EPA to let E15 be sold year-round to help Midwest farmers. EPA then rewrote the Clean Air Act, claiming the text was “ambiguous.” The D.C. Circuit of Appeals disagreed and ruled that EPA had exceeded its statutory authority.

Mr. Biden says E15 can save drivers on average 10 cents a gallon, but the waiver will have a negligible impact on gas prices nationwide since so few stations sell it.

It’s also unclear what legal authority EPA intends to invoke. Under the law EPA can only issue emergency waivers to address temporary fuel-supply shortages in discrete regions or states.

Meantime, Congress’s ethanol mandate is causing many small refiners to shut down and the U.S. to import more foreign fuel. Last week EPA denied 36 hardship exemptions for small refineries, so even more could close.

Synopsis

  •  30% higher corn prices with other crops rising by 20%, according to the National Academy of Sciences.
  • Growing more corn for ethanol causes increased amounts of water pollutants from U.S. farms
  • Expect more fertilizer use when fertilizer costs are soaring
  • More summer smog
  • E15 erodes older car engines, gas pumps, storage tanks and pipelines.
  • Small refiners will suffer and some will go out of business allowing Elizabeth Warren to moan about the concentration of "Big Oil".
  •

To top things off, when Trump tried the same thing, the courts struck it down as illegal.

Germany is continuing to implement programs that reduce CO2, and is committing economic suicide while doing it.

Has anyone figured out what effect reducing “carbon emissions” would have on global temperature?

Yes, actually they have.

There is MAGICC: Model for the Assessment of Greenhouse‐gas Induced Climate Change (MAGICC was developed by scientists at the National Center for Atmospheric Research under funding by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency).

Using MAGICC, you can evaluate the effects of various emission strategies on temperature change over time. The results are quite interesting.

See https://wattsupwiththat.com/2018/12/12/going-to-zero/

For an analysis of the entire US going to net zero carbon emissions.

It works out to 0.1 degree C by 2050.

One-tenth of a degree, if the entire USA goes to net zero!

WTF?

Is there a way to sue Brussels for malfeasance?

POLITICALLY INSPIRED, MARGINALLY EFFECTIVE, CORN-TO-ETHANOL PROGRAM

http://www.windtaskforce.org/profiles/blogs/politically-inspired-ma...

In the 2016/2017-crop year, the US had 85.8 million acres planted with corn, of which 31.4 million acres were planted to produce ethanol. The corn production was 14.440 billion bushels, of which 5.30 billion bushels were for corn to ethanol. The 169 bushels of each acre yielded 478 gallons of ethanol. Ethanol blended with gasoline was 14.80 billion gallon, about 10% of the gasohol fuel for vehicles. See table 1.

China operates its economy more efficiently than the US, because Chinese workers do not just burn the mid-night old, they burn the 3:30 AM oil, whereas US workers find reasons not to show up at work at all, according to Elon Musk, who employs at least 25,000 Chinese workers; they are less "woke".

As a result, to "level the playing field", Trump imposed tariffs on Chinese solar panels, so US manufacturers could be competitive.

Biden's teleprompter controllers just eliminated those tariffs, which means Chinese solar panel manufacturers will regain their earlier advantage, and US manufacturers will be put out of business.

All this is part of Biden's teleprompter controllers habitually putting China (and Europe) first, and the US last.

Another example is the disgraceful, unAmerican, free-for-all, with anyone-walking-in-from-anywhere through the open border.

Gaps were made in the existing wall to make it easier for Mexican Mafia human traffickers to rake in the big bucks

All this adds a BURDEN onto US workers of at least $20 billion per million illegal walk-ins.

Why would Biden's teleprompter controllers do this?

1) He, and his son Hunter, are hugely compromised, because of their earlier, shady, self-dealing with China, while he was VP, and after he was VP. Says Hunter in an email: "10% for the BIG GUY"

2) The Dem/Progs are shipping these illegals from everywhere to swing states, so they will vote Democrat, by hook and crook, using MULES and ballot drop boxes, financed by Zuckerberg, CEO of Facebook.

Other Biden teleprompter-controller idiocies have caused the US turnkey capital costs of solar systems to INCREASE by about 25% in one year, due to:

1) Increased inflation rates, because of $5.9 trillion of COVID and various gratuitous, pump-priming, deficit spending, "paid for" by a compliant Federal Reserve printing money; a classic inflation case of too many dollars chasing too few goods.

2) Increased interest rates to belatedly contain the 40-y-high, "temporary", rates of inflation, which have increased the turnkey capital costs of wind and solar systems and all other goods and services.

3) Worldwide supply chain disruptions, COVID or otherwise induced, such as by ill-considered, grossly excessive sanctions that are boomeranging onto the US and EU and other economies, while the Russian Ruble and Russian trade surplus are at 10-y highs.

4) Increased energy prices, such as of oil, gas, coal, etc., because 1) EU bureaucrats in Brussels stupidly fantasized Europe could make do with wind and solar, and 2) refusing to sign long-term, gas-supply contracts with Russia, because it would send the wrong signal regarding "fighting climate change".

Biden's teleprompter-controllers are aiding and abetting the EU bureaucrat stupidities by exporting OUR oil and natural gas to Europe, which causes US natural gas, gasoline, diesel fuel, and heating oil prices to skyrocket; Biden's teleprompter-controllers are working overtime screwing US workers.

NOTE: A recent explosion at an LNG export plant caused a 10% decrease in US natural gas wholesale prices, because exports of OUR natural gas to Europe would be reduced.

5) Increased materials prices, such as of Tungsten, Cobalt, Lithium, Copper, rare earth metals, etc., many of which are supplied by Russia and China, and used in EVs and other electrical systems

6) US/EU foolishly imposing PRE-PLANNED sanctions on Belarus and Russia, which led to worldwide shortages of potash and phosphates (both of which are mined) from Belarus, and nitrogen fertilizers (which are made from natural gas) from Russia. Their prices have become stratospheric, which curtailed worldwide food production.

All this will lead to 1) global food shortages in large areas of the Global South (South Asia, Africa, South America), 2) food price inflation, 3) additional impoverishment of the middle classes, 4) increased poverty and starvation, and 5) increased migration.

E10 blend already reduces gas mileage by 24%

In order to make up the mileage you need to buy 29% more of  the crap. (more bucks for government and more pollution)

E15 blend will reduce the gas mileage even more
Then you can expect to purchase more in crap gasoline to get the same mileage.

By the time you get to E100 you have half the energy value per gallon thus half the mileage.

This is why Hitler had to have a constant fuel line to feed his mechanized divisions when he

switched to Ethanol.

Pollution reduction of Regular Gasoline over E100 is only 4.2 pounds per million BTU's
8.73 gallons of regular gasoline is 1 million BTU's of energy
17.5 gallons of E100 is about 1 million BTU's of energy
17.5 gallons of E100 will emit 4.2 pounds more than Gasoline for the same energy (miles traveled)

E10 only saves .4 pounds over Regular gasoline per million BTU's but by the time you use 29% more E10 that figure is reduced to .284 pounds per million BTU's (8.73 gallons)
