BEP will decide on Passadumkeag Wind project on July 18th !!!! PLEASE BE THERE IF YOU CAN !

THE  CASE :

1 . DEP  position:

In  an unprecedented move , Passadumkeag   Windpark  permit application for 14  turbines on Passadumkeag  Mountain was  denied by  DEP in  November 2012 on scenic  grounds.

DEP  argued  that  the  project  will  have unreasonable adverse  effects  on  Saponac  Pond's  scenic  qualities where  the  14 turbines would  be  seen from 97 percent  of  the lake.

2.BEP  position

In  an  equally  unprecedented  move , in March 2013, the  BEP  REJECTED   the  DEP  denial obviously  wanting  to  see the project approved .

A  MOST  ILL INFORMED  COMMENT was  made  by  BEP  board member, Tom Eastler of Farmington who  said he didn’t want to see the review process started over — particularly if it involves public hearings.

“There have already been too many public hearings,” said Eastler. “We know what we’re going to hear. A bunch of the same old, same old.”

IN FACT THERE NEVER HAS BEEN  ANY FORMAL PUBLIC  HEARING !

3. New DEP position

As  directed  by  BEP , DEP has  now  written a  new  revised order approving  the  project which will  be  presented  to  the BEP on  July 18 along  with  comments from  the  public .

WHAT CAN YOU DO ?

You can attend the BEP hearing on JULY 18 TH , 9:00AM  , AT  THE FLORIAN HALL , Dept of Public  Safety  , 45 Commerce Drive , Augusta and  show  your  support for the  preservation of  beautiful  Passadumkeag Mountain and the  multiple  scenic  resources  within  its  viewshed  .

Thank  you

This does not look good for Bowers Mt.

RICO.

It is time to stop pretending we have representative govt. Stetson Mt wind farm was finished in 2008, Mars Hill before that.  Never was any room on the grid for wind farms..they do not produce significant electricity...health hazard..enviormentally unsound.. 19% increase in our electricity bills for transmission lines only needed for wind farms built 5 years ago..with a turbine life expectancy of 20 years or less. ME state govt. is a farce.

(excerpts) From Part 1 – On Maine’s Wind Law “Once the committee passed the wind energy bill on to the full House and Senate, lawmakers there didn’t even debate it. They passed it unanimously and with no discussion. House Majority Leader Hannah Pingree, a Democrat from North Haven, says legislators probably didn’t know how many turbines would be constructed in Maine if the law’s goals were met." . – Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting, August 2010 https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-power-bandwagon-hits-bumps-in-the-road-3/From Part 2 – On Wind and Oil Yet using wind energy doesn’t lower dependence on imported foreign oil. That’s because the majority of imported oil in Maine is used for heating and transportation. And switching our dependence from foreign oil to Maine-produced electricity isn’t likely to happen very soon, says Bartlett. “Right now, people can’t switch to electric cars and heating – if they did, we’d be in trouble.” So was one of the fundamental premises of the task force false, or at least misleading?" https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-swept-task-force-set-the-rules/From Part 3 – On Wind-Required New Transmission Lines Finally, the building of enormous, high-voltage transmission lines that the regional electricity system operator says are required to move substantial amounts of wind power to markets south of Maine was never even discussed by the task force – an omission that Mills said will come to haunt the state.“If you try to put 2,500 or 3,000 megawatts in northern or eastern Maine – oh, my god, try to build the transmission!” said Mills. “It’s not just the towers, it’s the lines – that’s when I begin to think that the goal is a little farfetched.” https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/flaws-in-bill-like-skating-with-dull-skates/
