Amazon makes a killing on electricity rates paid for by the rural poor

Amazon Web Services, the company's cloud computing business, is its fastest-growing and most profitable division, but it comes with a lot of upfront infrastructure costs and ongoing expenses, the biggest of which is electricity. Over the past two years, Amazon has almost doubled the size of its physical footprint worldwide, to 254 million square feet, including dozens of new data centers with vast fields of servers running 24/7. In at least two states, it's also negotiated with utilities and politicians to stick other people with the bills, piling untold millions of dollars on top of the estimated $1.2 billion in state and municipal tax incentives the company has received over the past decade.

Amazon is also famous for investing in wind power and other kinds of alternative energy, presumably to virtue-signal.

Actually, there's something extra in it for them on that energy front, too. Wind power is subsidized by taxpayers in places such as California, where state officials are alternative energy fanatics who have "mandates" for alternative energy consumption by consumers. Build a wind plant, get a subsidy, as well as guaranteed high prices for the energy you sell to others. That's the situation there and why all of the Silicon Valley hipster companies are highly involved in wind power projects out in California's hinterlands.

Trump Slams Censorship: “Social Media Giants Are Silencing Millions of People”

President intensifies fight back against Big Tech monopolies

Paul Joseph Watson | Infowars.com - August 24, 2018
President Donald Trump has hit out against online censorship again in a tweet this morning in which he warned that “social media giants are silencing millions of people.”

“Social Media Giants are silencing millions of people. Can’t do this even if it means we must continue to hear Fake News like CNN, whose ratings have suffered gravely. People have to figure out what is real, and what is not, without censorship!” tweeted Trump.

Trump has made repeated references to online censorship since Alex Jones and Infowars were simultaneously deplatformed by a number of Big Tech outlets earlier this month including YouTube, Facebook, Apple and Spotify. Gavin McInnes and his ‘Proud Boys’ organization were also banned by Twitter shortly after.

With the help of top media lawyers, Infowars has drawn up a series of recommendations to be sent to the Trump administration that will help protect free speech online.

Suggestions include directing the Justice Department to open investigations into whether there are First Amendment & anti-trust law violations by the major social media platforms. Trump could also set up a Presidential Commission made up of free speech experts to advise him on future action.

Infowars has been banned by Facebook. Please share this article on your own Facebook page to help us fight censorship.

Maine Center For Public Interest Reporting – Three Part Series: A CRITICAL LOOK AT MAINE’S WIND ACT

******** IF LINKS BELOW DON'T WORK, GOOGLE THEM*********

(excerpts) From Part 1 – On Maine’s Wind Law “Once the committee passed the wind energy bill on to the full House and Senate, lawmakers there didn’t even debate it. They passed it unanimously and with no discussion. House Majority Leader Hannah Pingree, a Democrat from North Haven, says legislators probably didn’t know how many turbines would be constructed in Maine if the law’s goals were met." . – Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting, August 2010 https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-power-bandwagon-hits-bumps-in-the-road-3/From Part 2 – On Wind and Oil Yet using wind energy doesn’t lower dependence on imported foreign oil. That’s because the majority of imported oil in Maine is used for heating and transportation. And switching our dependence from foreign oil to Maine-produced electricity isn’t likely to happen very soon, says Bartlett. “Right now, people can’t switch to electric cars and heating – if they did, we’d be in trouble.” So was one of the fundamental premises of the task force false, or at least misleading?" https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-swept-task-force-set-the-rules/From Part 3 – On Wind-Required New Transmission Lines Finally, the building of enormous, high-voltage transmission lines that the regional electricity system operator says are required to move substantial amounts of wind power to markets south of Maine was never even discussed by the task force – an omission that Mills said will come to haunt the state.“If you try to put 2,500 or 3,000 megawatts in northern or eastern Maine – oh, my god, try to build the transmission!” said Mills. “It’s not just the towers, it’s the lines – that’s when I begin to think that the goal is a little farfetched.” https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/flaws-in-bill-like-skating-with-dull-skates/
