A WIND WARRIOR CHRISTMAS PRESENT ....SORT OF .

                                       A WIND  WARRIOR  CHRISTMAS  PRESENT ....sort  of

Hello  Folks
T' WAS   a  year  ago just  before  Christmas, that I appealed to you  to  sign  our first  CTFWP  call  to  action  to  defeat  the  extension of  the  PTC  as  part  of  a  large  nationwide  effort.
The  bill was  rejected  but  a  very  needy  AWEA  WOULD  NOT  GIVE  UP and  so 4 more  bills would  be  concocted  and  defeated  during  2012.
In  a  year things though  got pretty bad  for America  and  while the sharp saber of budget cuts is  circling endlessly and  aimlessly into  the  air .....I  imagine  that Congressmen  must be  weary to  have to choose between AARP AND  AWEA !
So here  are  few words  (from  our  friends watching the Hill) describing  our  dear leaders' predicament as they  all  tried  to pretend  they  would  make time move  without  making  a  move:
"Things are certainly heated on Capitol Hill. The very good news is that Congress is in chaos and Obama has left town until Wed so nothing happens until after Christmas Day
The situation is as follows:
1) On Thursday (Dec 21), the House passed a bill that addresses spending cuts sufficient to avoid the sequester. Nothing in the House bill even hints at the PTC;
2) Harry Reid now has two bills on his desk -- the bill passed by the House on Thursday as well as the Senate finance committee tax-extender bill from August that never went to a floor vote;
3) Reid DOES NOT HAVE THE 60 VOTES to pass either bill so he is stuck. Still, he has no choice but to pass something. What get's passed out of Senate may/may not have the wind PTC extension included -- and we do not know what an extension might look like.
4) In the end, this thing goes to conference and things get a little scary when Conference Committee members go behind closed doors. But there is a hard reality that Congress knows by now:
-- LOTs of people within and outside our network are watching congress particularly on the PTC question. And there has been plenty of debate in the public arena on why the PTC should NOT be extended; ( EVEN NPR GETS INVOLVED AS THIS  MORNING THE  WHINING OF  THE AWEA  HIT  THE  MORNING AIRWAVES )
-- Congressional members and staffers are aware there are much bigger issues facing the country -- bigger that the wind PTC;
-- AWEA has managed to irk enough members (including senators) with its campaign that it's not clear folks like Grassley will go to the floor defending the indefensible. Some believe the PTC is not even on the radar for some members when considering the larger issues. and finally,
-- Nothing is getting passed without a pay-for. If we can't find the money to cover the extension, it goes nowhere. The senate finance committee bill from August had NO pay-fors."......."
SO  WHILE  ANGUS  KING  HAD  THE  GUTS TO  ASK AND  RECEIVE $30 MILLION IN TAXPAYER PROVIDED SUBSIDIES FOR RECORD  HILL , HIS SOLE VENTURE INTO THE WIND SCAM IN  2009 WHILE  THE  DEBT  WAS $13 TRILLION, NOW THAT THE DEBT  HAS  BALLOONED  TO $16  TRILLION  LET  US KEEP  A  CLOSE  EYE ON  HIS  MOVES AND  EVERY  CONGRESSPERSON'S  MOVE ...AND  IN  THE  MEANTIME RELAX .
AND  ENJOY  THE  FACT  THAT  WIND WARRIORS IN MORE  THAN TWENTY STATES HAVE  GATHERED  THREE  TIMES  MORE  SIGNATURES  THAN  A  YEAR AGO  IN  THE CURRENT ATTEMPT TO ELIMINATE THE PTC  EXTENSION.....
MERRY  CHRISTMAS

Maine Center For Public Interest Reporting – Three Part Series: A CRITICAL LOOK AT MAINE’S WIND ACT

******** IF LINKS BELOW DON'T WORK, GOOGLE THEM*********

(excerpts) From Part 1 – On Maine’s Wind Law “Once the committee passed the wind energy bill on to the full House and Senate, lawmakers there didn’t even debate it. They passed it unanimously and with no discussion. House Majority Leader Hannah Pingree, a Democrat from North Haven, says legislators probably didn’t know how many turbines would be constructed in Maine if the law’s goals were met." . – Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting, August 2010 https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-power-bandwagon-hits-bumps-in-the-road-3/From Part 2 – On Wind and Oil Yet using wind energy doesn’t lower dependence on imported foreign oil. That’s because the majority of imported oil in Maine is used for heating and transportation. And switching our dependence from foreign oil to Maine-produced electricity isn’t likely to happen very soon, says Bartlett. “Right now, people can’t switch to electric cars and heating – if they did, we’d be in trouble.” So was one of the fundamental premises of the task force false, or at least misleading?" https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-swept-task-force-set-the-rules/From Part 3 – On Wind-Required New Transmission Lines Finally, the building of enormous, high-voltage transmission lines that the regional electricity system operator says are required to move substantial amounts of wind power to markets south of Maine was never even discussed by the task force – an omission that Mills said will come to haunt the state.“If you try to put 2,500 or 3,000 megawatts in northern or eastern Maine – oh, my god, try to build the transmission!” said Mills. “It’s not just the towers, it’s the lines – that’s when I begin to think that the goal is a little farfetched.” https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/flaws-in-bill-like-skating-with-dull-skates/
