A totally new type of windfarm
The Japanese are building Floating Wind Farms to put in deeper waters....
"What sets the project apart from other offshore wind farms around the world, consortium officials say, is that its turbines, and even the substation and electrical transformer equipment, float on giant platforms anchored to the seabed. That technology greatly expands potential locations for offshore wind farms, which have been fixed into the seabed, limiting their location to shallow waters."
From studies done by Makani Power offshore Humboldt County in the Pacific Ocean, local birds did not go more than nine miles offshore and migration corridors also were within that "bird sea limit" line. If these were put more than 9.1 miles off, not only would no one see them, but cable anchored to the sea floor they might not even bother sea life either. Perhaps its time to distract the regulators and media chorus with "See!! Look!! Modern!! Shiny!!" and "Why waste time building on land when these can be put up faster and easier?" or "Our state will be full of dinosaurs when everyone else is using these!"

The American on-land windmill model is 30-year-old tech sited in areas which are automatically of lower wind intensity than offshore. It's time for some new thinking and it looks like the Japanese may have thought of a much lower impact, much easier to service, offshore wind technology.
