The climate hyperbole is reaching cataclysmic proportions; here is what a Vermont lobbyist writes.

The article linked below was written by Ben Walsh who works for Vermont Public Interest Group (VPIRG), a powerful renewable lobby in Montpelier.

Here is his introductory paragraph: "Leadership in the Vermont House and Senate, as well as the governor, have identified climate action as a key priority this year. They have recognized that Vermont has both a legal and moral obligation to cut climate pollution in an equitable way, and at a pace that recognizes the scale and severity of the climate emergency."

Now, like Maine, Vermont has suffered tremendous economic dislocation from the pandemic - 24,000 jobs have been lost and many surviving businesses cannot find help. Vermont has seen massive increases in mental health problems, suicide and drug overdoses and the winter has been just that -  months of freezing cold and snow. Inflation and scarcity are affecting everyone.

Not one word in his introduction reflects Vermont reality and in his column one will see the unfolding of a new narrative blending social and racial justice with climate change paranoia. The talking points are widening beyond climate, maybe because Vermont being so cold folks have lost interest in global warming, so a new layer of guilt had to be introduced to justify the "control the climate" agenda.

This is relevant to the battle whether you live in Maine, Vermont or anywhere else where zero carbon policies  will destabilize the grid and impoverish society.

Paul Ackerman is right about organizations supporting the creeping American Marxism masquerading under the "save the planet" rubric. In "Apocalypse Never," Michael Shellenberger documents the organizations behind opposition to nuclear power, and where they get their funds (besides donations from useful idiots). It was the Rockefeller Foundation that paid to get the "linear no threshold" model of the relationship of risk to radiation exposure enshrined at the AEC (now the NRC). That proposition holds that any amount of radiation poses a risk, in proportion to the amount, and the risk is only zero when there is no radiation. Analysis of cancer rates among Japanese victims of nuclear weapons showed that small amounts of radiation actually DECREASE cancer risk. How else to explain that the cancer rate among nuclear power plant workers is less than among the general population?

Sierra Club (and especially Ansel Adams, a member of the board) initially supported nuclear power, because of the almost complete absence of emissions. David Brower, another board member, had drunk the Greenpeace and Rockefeller Kool Aid that nuclear power = nuclear weapons, and wanted to reverse course. The board wouldn't budge. He got a grant of $83,000 from the CEO of Atlantic Richfield Corporation, now ARCO, now owned by BP (%500,000 in today's money) to start Friends of the Earth. When Sierra Club saw how much he was raking in from fossil fuel interests, and useful idiots, they reversed course too. Adams resigned from the board. They continue to get hefty chunks from Southern California Gas Company and Bloomberg. The Brown dynasty in California was corrupted by Getty oil's chief financial officer, whose son is now California's gruesome governor. The story goes further. Read "Apocalypse Never" by Michael Shellenberger.

70 years ago this coming summer, I was introduced to Head Beach in Phippsburg, at the entrance to Hermit Island Campground by my parents.  Our family visited often and I continued the tradition by bringing my wife and three kids to the same beach.  Now my grandkids roam that beach. From what I can see, the water line, ever changing due to the science of the tides, seems to be in the same place it was 70 years ago.  Still waiting for the calamity.

Well said Paul, and Indeed, Call Out The Liars!!!

"This is the new Alinskyite tactic of the radical left. What they invented a few years back as "Intersectionality" now is more obvious in the overused (and entirely false ) "equity and inclusion" mantra.

First off, there is NO "climate emergency" at all.

This hyperbole is what they must use in order to gin up more fear among the uninformed masses. They jam it into school curriculums, attempt to build it into every news story they can.

They need the fear to con voters into supporting their "Only we can SAVE THE PLANET" vote for us !

Pathetically it seems to have worked in Vermont--and disgustingly in much of Maine to date.

It is societal suicide, plain and simple.

If I recall the numbers correctly (Willem Post can correct me please) if every single thing in the USA was miraculously zero-carbon emitting (an impossibility) it would not make 1/2 degree difference in global temperatures within ten years or more. Add to that the fact that if every Vermonter went back to the stone age (no cars, no electricity, no tourists ) their yearly contribution wouldn't be a gnat's ass compared to the carbon output of one Chinese city ( a small one at that) in a day.

Emergencies abound in America --and the world today ,and they can be directly tied to the effect of these climate-change fanatics directing the destruction of the American petroleum industry via their cronies pulling the strings of the puppet in the White House.

I'd be willing to bet that more people die from lack of heat in a cold climate than lack of AC in a hotter climate. Without affordable electric power and eliminating so-called "fossil fuels" will make Vermont real estate affordable again since unless you can live like it is 1800, no one but the uber wealthy will be able to live there.

I'm interested to learn who the financial backers of Vt Digger are that carry that much weight to eliminate the comments feature?"

This website is still about wind and these days solar/EV's as well. But many of us have realized that wind is simply a manifestation of a larger rot, a rot that has grown substantially since this site came about in 2009.  The rot is seemingly well organized and is powered by incessant bald faced lies, amplified by propagandists masquerading as legitimate media. Let's hope that this gets fixed lest we lose not just our peace and quiet, but our country. The hour is late.

Utility/grid-scale wind and solar cannot exist without greatly aggravating rural folks

Also, they cannot exist without the other electricity generators altering their outputs up and down to counteract the output variations of wind and solar, 24/7/365

Those folks have to be cajoled, or brow beaten, or scare-mongerred, into acceptance of the land-guzzling monstrosities.

Folks living nearby wind turbines have to be lied to that noises are imaginary, and that infrasound is harmless

A parade of glib-talking lawyers and experts travel to various meeting sites to testify, i.e., lie and obfuscate

On top of that, rural folks have to pay the subsidies for these way-of-life-altering monstrosities.

The more wind and solar per capita, the higher household electric rates, as proven in Denmark and Germany

Those monstrosities are OWNED by wealthy folks living ELSEWHERE

THEY WOULD NOT BE CAUGHT DEAD NEAR ANY OF THEM, WHILE ENJOYING THEIR TAX SHELTER SUBSIDIES FOR DECADES, AND BEING SO PROUD THEY ARE DOING THEIR PART FIGHTING CLIMATE CHANGE

FAIR IS FAIR

Monique Ariel Thurston, you are correct --and thank you for your stewardship in the founding of this group.

I am by far a late comer to the organization --probably 2014 or so ?-- but even by then I had realized that the tentacles of "wind power", "green energy", and all of the other radical environmental movements were offshoots of larger funding/organizing groups ,seemingly impossible to trace easily.

Peeling the onion of funding for leftist politicians in the early 2000's exposed many names and groups I'd never heard of before...then they kept popping up connected to many things, industrial scale windpower among them, that were destroying this representative Republic piece by piece.

In time it has become clear that the roots of all this go back to modernized versions of Marxism, but with some competing actors each trying to implement chaos in America --and worldwide , except in their own countries-- in order to create a dystopian system that they will control, to supplant freedom of thought, speech, movement, ownership. One needs look no further today than Klaus Schwab's most recent books , The Great Reset, and The Great Narrative to have the linkages and end game spelled out.

So yes, straying from the topic of tens of thousands of destructive and economically useless giant wind turbines off the coast or on flattened off mountains in Maine and elsewhere may be inevitable to awaken everyone to the larger context of what we are faced with- a globalist onslaught ,in one phase  under the guise of environmental moral authority and guilt tripping. Al Gore's snake oil show was just an early introduction to this.

Lynn Oleum, your comment is interesting. Some people have been upset that the website has strayed at times from its original mission - an organization to oppose wind power on Maine mountains (I was the co-chair of the Task Force at its foundation in November 2009 ). One could say that is a reasonable remark but as we started 12 years ago to unearth the multiple heads of the beast called the Maine Wind Law, we became brutally exposed to the never ending complexities, ideological, politico-socio-economical entanglements intertwined in what is called renewable energy policies. A strange alliance between capitalism and a form of Derrida socialism (The New International), where guilt would be placed on innocent rural folks to gain their passive acceptance of the destruction of their environment with massive wind turbines and thus expunge the crimes of modern society affecting the third world. In an early video Al Gore showed the flooded fields of rice farmers in Bangladesh to justify the destruction of rural landscape in the Western world.  Wind turbines are a component of an impossible energy dream which could have devastating economical and human consequences.

Our Canadian neighbors are showing us the way. The truckers and their supporters have true grit.  We need to do the same when our own truckers head for DC.  Freedom trumps Marxism any day of the week and twice on Sundays.

Comment by Paul Ackerman on February 13, 2022 at 5:32pm

Very true . And look how well it is going in Ottawa as we speak . The little fascist running Canada needs to demonize the kulak truckers and supporters ....but it does not look like it is working.

Compare the Canadian protesters -- a sea of Canadian flags -- to your average BLM/Antifa protesters...did they EVER carry American flags ,other than to burn them?

House Majority Leader Hannah Pingree, a Democrat from North Haven, says legislators probably didn’t know how many turbines would be constructed in Maine if the law’s goals were met." . – Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting, August 2010 https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-power-bandwagon-hits-bumps-in-the-road-3/From Part 2 – On Wind and Oil Yet using wind energy doesn’t lower dependence on imported foreign oil. That’s because the majority of imported oil in Maine is used for heating and transportation. And switching our dependence from foreign oil to Maine-produced electricity isn’t likely to happen very soon, says Bartlett. “Right now, people can’t switch to electric cars and heating – if they did, we’d be in trouble.” So was one of the fundamental premises of the task force false, or at least misleading?" https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-swept-task-force-set-the-rules/From Part 3 – On Wind-Required New Transmission Lines Finally, the building of enormous, high-voltage transmission lines that the regional electricity system operator says are required to move substantial amounts of wind power to markets south of Maine was never even discussed by the task force – an omission that Mills said will come to haunt the state.“If you try to put 2,500 or 3,000 megawatts in northern or eastern Maine – oh, my god, try to build the transmission!” said Mills. “It’s not just the towers, it’s the lines – that’s when I begin to think that the goal is a little farfetched.” https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/flaws-in-bill-like-skating-with-dull-skates/
