It is Not the Price of Natural Gas Driving Up Electricity Costs
Market monitor issues spring 2026 quarterly report
Even as natural gas prices dropped this spring, emissions costs and other factors drove an increase in wholesale electricity costs, according to the latest quarterly report from ISO New England’s Internal Market Monitor (IMM).
The Spring 2026 Quarterly Markets Report, which covers the period from March 1 to May 31, presents an assessment of each of the region’s wholesale electricity markets, based on market data, performance criteria, and independent studies.
Natural gas prices averaged $2.79 per million British thermal units in spring 2026, the IMM said. That’s 18% lower than the previous spring and significantly below the average for the winter of 2025/2026. Natural gas is the predominant energy fuel in New England, and wholesale electricity prices usually are closely linked to natural gas prices.
However, emissions-related costs rose 65% year over year for a typical natural gas generator. These elevated prices reflect tightening emissions caps under the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative and Massachusetts Electric Generator Emissions Limits coinciding with higher emissions during a period of extreme cold over the winter

We should stop talking about CO2 as if it is a disease.
That is what the self-serving IPCC crowd wants you to do.
They fill your head with nonsense. Do not repeat it!Increased CO2 ppm is a major blessing.
It greens the earth, requires less water and fertilizer to grow green crops to better feed 8 billion peopleTexas built the largest wind fleet in America.
More than 30,000 turbines; costing tens of billions in subsidies; sold as clean, limitless energy.
But those turbines need to be replaced every 20 years, rotor blades every 5 years.
Total madness.
Nuclear plants are good for 60 to 80 years, produces steady power that cost s much less/kWh……But in February 2021, reality hit the wind madness.
A historic cold outbreak froze the turbines, because they were not equipped with winterizing packages, common in colder climates; save money/screw reliability.
Power output across the state collapsed within hours; the grid buckled; millions lost electricity; almost 1,000 people died.
The promise was clean energy. The reality was blackouts, Texans freezing to death, and a grid one cold snap away from collapse. Same is true in the UK, Spain, Germany, etc.
Insanity on subsidized steroids!
