The States yell " More Wind, More Solar " , While the Grid Operator exclaims " More Reliable Energy "
"Mark Karl, Vice President, Market Development, ISO New England, explained that the ( New England ) region is shifting away from resources with on-site fuel supplies (coal, oil, nuclear) toward those that rely on “just-in-time” fuel delivery (natural gas) or variable weather conditions (renewables). Karl explained that, during extended cold weather…

This man explains it in simple terms to ISO-NE :
Paul Peterson, Principal Analyst, Synapse Energy Economics, said that, between 2015 and 2030, natural gas use is projected to decrease by more than 40 percent and that the region needs to do more to ensure it is able to meet its carbon reduction goals. He also said that markets need to evolve in order to better value resources such as…

I can't remember one natural gas plant owner in Maine that fought with us as we opposed all the wind projects in Maine that now send over a million megawatt-hours of electricity into the grid because of purchase contracts with Southern New England Utilities.

It's time for Maine to take a passive stance on energy policy for the sake of reliability and ratepayer price relief. The latest reports on Maine electric production pegs the state at 75% renewable electric generation. . Emissions from Maine Electric plants are at just half the 2025 RGGI…

In 2017, about three-quarters of Maine's net electricity generation came from renewable sources, with almost one-third from hydroelectric dams, one-fourth from biomass generators using mainly wood waste products, and one-fifth from wind turbines. In addition, almost one-fifth of net generation came from natural gas.

To all those people, like the Natural Resources Council of Maine and the Democratic Wing of the Maine Legislature, who want all of New England's electricity to be derived from renewables, aka, wind and solar replacing fossil fuels, how could you not confront the ISO-NE people who have decided to retain natural gas resources seeking retirement, specifically, Mystic Units 8 and 9, natural gas plants fueled by LNG . A special cost-of- service agreement will be implemented to keep these…

Longroads statement on Weaver Wind Bid to RI RFP
"Eligibility for the Federal tax credits is assumed in the pricing and viability of the Project. It is likely the Project will elect the Investment Tax Credit (“ITC”). The Project has qualified for the 30% ITC available for wind by starting offsite construction by the end of 2016. "

The pricing contract of the 800 MW off-shore Vineyard Wind :
Phase 1 = 400MW
Phase 2 = 400 MW
"The price for energy and RECs in the Phase 1 of the long-term contracts begins at $74 per MWh (nominal $), and the price for energy and RECs in the Phase 2 long-term contracts begins at $65 per MWh (nominal $). Each longterm contract has a 20-year term, starting at the COD of the relevant project, and the prices described…

A $2 billion increase in wholesale energy costs and a $ 1.3 billion increase in forward capacity costs for 2018 in the New England electric market doesn't bode well for the new retail rates due to start January 1, 2019. The market is responding to natural gas constraints and distortions inflicted by integrating wind and solar.

Mayor Martin J. Walsh today is asking renewable energy developers and other interested parties to share details on what could be the largest renewable energy project of its kind in the country. The City of Boston released today a Request for Information (RFI) to obtain feedback from qualified renewable energy project developers with projects throughout the United States that could support the municipal energy demand of 20 cities included in the request. The total aggregate energy demand of…

Congratulations, Governor King and Baldacci, your visions for a Saudi Arabian Wind Empire for Maine has been attained. The annual in-state electricity generation from wind surpassed the in-state electricity generation from natural gas for 2017. With that, the state is now in a perilous situation with more intermittent power eclipsing reliable power. And with another 400 plus megawatts of wind power projects hustling to adorn the state's hills and barely a drip of natural gas available…

Maine Center For Public Interest Reporting – Three Part Series: A CRITICAL LOOK AT MAINE’S WIND ACT
******** IF LINKS BELOW DON'T WORK, GOOGLE THEM*********
(excerpts) From Part 1 – On Maine’s Wind Law “Once the committee passed the wind energy bill on to the full House and Senate, lawmakers there didn’t even debate it. They passed it unanimously and with no discussion. House Majority Leader Hannah Pingree, a Democrat from North Haven, says legislators probably didn’t know how many turbines would be constructed in Maine if the law’s goals were met." . – Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting, August 2010 https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-power-bandwagon-hits-bumps-in-the-road-3/From Part 2 – On Wind and Oil Yet using wind energy doesn’t lower dependence on imported foreign oil. That’s because the majority of imported oil in Maine is used for heating and transportation. And switching our dependence from foreign oil to Maine-produced electricity isn’t likely to happen very soon, says Bartlett. “Right now, people can’t switch to electric cars and heating – if they did, we’d be in trouble.” So was one of the fundamental premises of the task force false, or at least misleading?" https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-swept-task-force-set-the-rules/From Part 3 – On Wind-Required New Transmission Lines Finally, the building of enormous, high-voltage transmission lines that the regional electricity system operator says are required to move substantial amounts of wind power to markets south of Maine was never even discussed by the task force – an omission that Mills said will come to haunt the state.“If you try to put 2,500 or 3,000 megawatts in northern or eastern Maine – oh, my god, try to build the transmission!” said Mills. “It’s not just the towers, it’s the lines – that’s when I begin to think that the goal is a little farfetched.” https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/flaws-in-bill-like-skating-with-dull-skates/
