Higher Carbon Taxes and Similar Natural Gas Costs = Higher Electricity Costs

ISO-NE Reports:Higher energy costs (2024 costs versus 2023 costs) were largely attributed to increased production costs and changes in the regional supply mix. Specifically, higher CO₂ emissions costs under the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) program and lower imports from Quebec were two key contributors. Bycontrast, natural gas prices—the primary driver of electricity prices in New England—remainedrelatively stable, averaging $3.06/MMBtu in 2024, similar to 2023 levels.See More

Community Solar files a lawsuit against the people of Maine and threatens subscribers wth yanking their 15% savings

Upon further examination, this lawsuit  filed by Community Solar hits people not subscribing to community solar as well as people who have subscribed into community solar. They want the courts to decide that their money is more important than the money that belongs to the people of Maine. They threaten their own subscribers to eliminate the 15% sign up savings. This is outrageous! Suing the citizens of Maine while removing the only reason some Mainers signed up for this scam: to cut costs. But…See More

The Maine PUC is Still on Their" Screw the Ratepayer" Mission

The question is how will the PUC spin these offers so that "the likely benefits will exceed the likely costs. "

Historically they have based their estimates on higher prices for market electricity in the latter years of the contract will exceed the contracted prices. Of course they will, the multitude of all these contracts made through the PUC is what is causing market electricity prices to spiral upward.

These are the PUC's…

Good day Dan! Water power worked fine in Maine 100 years ago! No reason why small and large water power from Maine can on bring 20,000 jobs to our State! No dams needed today just water moving downhill to generator stations! And small water power being developed in all Maine schools, there are streams and rivers near most town in Maine! I have been working with The Dept. of Education for 30 years but they are slow in moving in a positive direction! Water power is the only truly clean power that runs for nothing 24 hours even day!! Taxation without representation when it comes to commercial wind power and they push up the national debt do they not?! Hey Dan. How many signatures do we need on the petition to get the ordinance language on the June ballot? And what is the deadline to get those signatures? Take care, Hart

Someone needs to find a way to let the public know what the wind ordinance is about and what is says. I blame our town officials for this lack of information being brought to the public.  Many people I have talked to have shot down the past attempts because they think saying "yes" means they are saying  "yes" to wind turbines in the area.  They need to know it is not "yes come put up turbines" but "yes we are restrincting them".  They must be informed in a way and wording people in general can understand.  Or, maybe I am wrong and I don't even understand.  People need to understand before going to the poles without having to attend meetings.  Just my thoughts.

Ha!  I agree; however, we also had Wendy Todd from Mars Hill and I doubt if we would have been successful without her appearance.  You could have heard a pin drop when she spoke at our informational meeting.  I wish everyone could see the videos of the Mars Hill residents being interviewed after their project went online, a lot of questions could be answered just by watching them.  What is amazing is how the opposition has grown in such a short time.  What was once phone calls (remember talking years ago??!) and emails between everyone has now become a Statewide coalition with websites and blogs, thanks to the more technical folks!  I have faith more projects will be voted down and much of Maine will remain special.

Hi Dan

I wish I had one dollar for every Roxbury resident who has recently exclaimed, "Wow, I didn't know they were going to be THAT big."   I hope all surrounding towns pay attention to size and location and the scam Big Wind represents.  What is sad is that Byron voted them out yet several of us have to be subjected to them.  What's even sadder is that one of our Selectwomen appeared at a Roxbury informational meeting and called all of us in Byron "dumb" for voting the way we did.

Maine Center For Public Interest Reporting – Three Part Series: A CRITICAL LOOK AT MAINE’S WIND ACT

******** IF LINKS BELOW DON'T WORK, GOOGLE THEM*********

(excerpts) From Part 1 – On Maine’s Wind Law “Once the committee passed the wind energy bill on to the full House and Senate, lawmakers there didn’t even debate it. They passed it unanimously and with no discussion. House Majority Leader Hannah Pingree, a Democrat from North Haven, says legislators probably didn’t know how many turbines would be constructed in Maine if the law’s goals were met." . – Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting, August 2010 https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-power-bandwagon-hits-bumps-in-the-road-3/From Part 2 – On Wind and Oil Yet using wind energy doesn’t lower dependence on imported foreign oil. That’s because the majority of imported oil in Maine is used for heating and transportation. And switching our dependence from foreign oil to Maine-produced electricity isn’t likely to happen very soon, says Bartlett. “Right now, people can’t switch to electric cars and heating – if they did, we’d be in trouble.” So was one of the fundamental premises of the task force false, or at least misleading?" https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-swept-task-force-set-the-rules/From Part 3 – On Wind-Required New Transmission Lines Finally, the building of enormous, high-voltage transmission lines that the regional electricity system operator says are required to move substantial amounts of wind power to markets south of Maine was never even discussed by the task force – an omission that Mills said will come to haunt the state.“If you try to put 2,500 or 3,000 megawatts in northern or eastern Maine – oh, my god, try to build the transmission!” said Mills. “It’s not just the towers, it’s the lines – that’s when I begin to think that the goal is a little farfetched.” https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/flaws-in-bill-like-skating-with-dull-skates/
