But, what about:
1. The Spinning Reserve that each and every industrial wind complex requires? This is the backup electrical generation that must always be maintained in a state of "Hot Standby" for those frequent times that the wind stops blowing. In such standby mode, the backup plants, typically fossil fuel-fired are just staying hot, but are below a boil, so they are not producing any electricity. But they are consuming lots of fossil fuel to stay in this state of readiness. And this also happens to be an extremely inefficient way to operate the backup plants meaning PARTICULARLY HIGH LEVELS OF POLLUTION RESULT. Again, while producing ZERO electricity. That is hardly clean energy.
2. Industrial wind complexes consume a tremendous amount of electricity from the outside grid just to operate and this electricity typically comes from fossil fuel here in Maine. 3. What about the fact that there is a finite supply of government subsidy money (OUR TAX DOLLARS) and the incessant flow of such gifts to industrial wind companies means that other programs such as weatherization don't receive those funds. Weatherization is clearly the low hanging fruit here in Maine as far as saving energy goes and as far as reducing emissions goes. Maine has the oldest housing stock in the nation and weatherization could produce an instant and permanent 40% reduction in fuel expenditures. 40%. Say it again 40%. Low hanging fruit. 40% Governor - is there something about that which is not clear to you? What if the $114 million stimulus GIFT given to First Wind were used to hire Joe the Weatherizer instead?
4. Geez, made here huh? Then why were the turbine blades for Rollins Mountain in Lincoln shipped from Santos, Brazil? You know folks, when the Stimulus was approved, it was to create jobs. But the jobs were supposed to be here in the USA, not Brazil. Or not in China as Senator Charles Schumer of NY points out:
"“I’m all for investing in clean energy, but we should be investing in the United States, not China,” Schumer said. “The goal of the stimulus was to spur job creation here, not overseas."
