Global Shipping Net-Zero by 2050 CO2 Tax Vote Deferred Until Next Year

.

That tax would have created another, new, worldwide UN agency, based in Brussels, and financed its expensive Net-Zero by 2050 rules-making and enforcement regime.

That would have increased the cost of transporting worldwide trade by about 10%, all to affect only 3% of world CO2 emissions.

That 3% is almost equal to the annual addition to world CO2 emissions each year.
How come private yachts and private planes and huge estates continue to be exempt?

.

The IPCC, etc., has endowed CO2 gas as having magical global warming power, based on its own “science”
The IPCC, etc., claims, CO2 acts as Climate Control Knob, that eventually will cause runaway Climate Change, if we continue using fossil fuels.
The IPCC, etc., denies the Little Ice Age, uses fraudulent computer temperature projections.

.

Governments proclaimed: Go Wind and Solar, Go ENERGIEWENDE, go Net zero by 2050, etc., and provided oodles of subsidies, and rules and regulations, and mandates, and prohibitions to make it happen.
.
Net-zero by 2050 to-reduce CO2 is a super-expensive suicide pact, to:

1) increase command/control by governments, and

2) enable the moneyed elites to become more powerful and richer, at the expense of all others, by using the foghorn of the government-subsidized/controlled Corporate Media to spread scare-mongering slogans and brainwash people, already for at least 50 years; extremely biased CNN, MSNBC, NPR, PBS, NBC ABC, CBS come to mind.

.

CO2, just 0.042% in the atmosphere, is a weak absorber of a small fraction of the absorbable, low-energy IR photons.
CO2 has near-zero influence on world surface temperatures.

CO2 is a life-giving molecule. Greater CO2 ppm in atmosphere is an absolutely essential ingredient for:

1) increased green flora, which increases fauna all over the world, including desert areas, and

2) increased crop yields to better feed 8 billion people.

US-led alliance wins a year’s delay in adoption of green shipping deal

The IMO’s Net-Zero by 2050 Framework will be up for approval again in October 2026, after the US and Saudi Arabia persuaded countries not to vote on it as planned

Joe Lo

In April 2025, governments provisionally agreed the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) Net-Zero Framework (NZF), which would penalize 5000-ton and greater capacity ships around the world and use the money to fund the transition to cleaner vessels and fuels to achieve Net-Zero by 2050.

The NZF was scheduled to set emissions reduction targets for ships starting in 2028. But this – and the rest of the framework’s timeline – have now been plunged into doubt.

Although some technical work can continue, political progress will have to wait until October 2026 when delegates will likely dispose of the issue, because adoption of the NZF appears impossible, given the US opposition.

Trump’s threats

Ahead of the meeting, the US government had threatened a series of measures targeting government officials who supported the NZF and threatening to make it very difficult and expensive for those countries’ ships to call at US ports.

joint statement by the US transport and US foreign ministers said: “We will fight hard to protect our economic interests by imposing costs on countries, if they support the NZF.

Our fellow IMO members should be on notice.”

And on Thursday, President Donald Trump tried to intervene directly in the IMO process, urging countries to vote against what he called “this Global Green New Scam Tax on Shipping” and “a Green New Scam Bureaucracy”.

In a post on his Truth Social platform, he suggested that the NZF would lead to higher prices for American consumers, adding that the US “will not adhere to it in any way, shape, or form”.

The Trump administration released a statement ahead of the deferral vote;

Taking Action to Defend America from the UN’s First Global Carbon Tax – the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) “Net-Zero by 2050 Framework” (NZF)

MEDIA NOTE

OFFICE OF THE SPOKESPERSON

OCTOBER 10, 2025

Joint Statement by Secretary of State Rubio, Secretary of Energy Wright, and Secretary of Transportation Duffy

President Trump has made it clear that the United States will not accept any international environmental agreement that unduly or unfairly burdens the United States or harms the interests of the American people.

Next week, members of the IMO will vote on the adoption of a so-called NZF aimed at reducing global CO2 gas emissions from the international shipping sector.

This will be the first time that a UN organization levies a global carbon tax on the world.

The Administration unequivocally rejects this proposal before the IMO and will not tolerate any action that increases costs for our citizens, energy providers, shipping companies and their customers, or tourists.

The economic impacts from this measure could be disastrous, with some estimates forecasting global shipping costs increasing as much as 10% or more.

We ask you to join us in rejecting adoption of the NZF at the October meeting and to work together on our collective economic and energy security.

The NZF proposal poses significant risks to the global economy and subjects not just Americans, but all IMO member states to an unsanctioned global tax regime that levies punitive and regressive financial penalties..

The United States is considering the following actions against nations that support this global carbon tax on American consumers:

  • Pursuing investigations and considering potential regulations to combat anti-competitive practices from certain flagged countries and potential blocking vessels registered in those countries from U.S. ports;
  • Imposing visa restrictions including an increase in fees and processing, mandatory re-interview requirements and/or revisions of quotas for C-1/D maritime crew member visas;
  • Imposing commercial penalties stemming from U.S. government contracts including new commercial ships, liquified natural gas terminals and infrastructure, and/or other financial penalties on ships flagged under nations in favor of the NZF;
  • Imposing additional port fees on ships owned, operated, or flagged by countries supporting the framework; and
  • Evaluating sanctions on officials sponsoring activist-driven climate policies that would burden American consumers, among other measures under consideration.

The United States will be moving to levy these remedies against nations that sponsor this European-led neocolonial export of global climate regulations

We will fight hard to protect our economic interests by imposing costs on countries if they support the NZF.  Our fellow IMO members should be on notice.

The NZF tax on global shipping would have been pumped into a net zero by 2050 fund administered by the United Nations, which would set up another bureaucracy.

Why a deferral rather than a cancellation?

Green-obsessed member states and UN officials are still clinging to the hope they can shift the political landscape in favor of supporting this new NZF  tax on prosperity.

Have no doubt, that interference will include covert foreign interference in US domestic politics.

House Majority Leader Hannah Pingree, a Democrat from North Haven, says legislators probably didn’t know how many turbines would be constructed in Maine if the law’s goals were met." . – Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting, August 2010 https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-power-bandwagon-hits-bumps-in-the-road-3/From Part 2 – On Wind and Oil Yet using wind energy doesn’t lower dependence on imported foreign oil. That’s because the majority of imported oil in Maine is used for heating and transportation. And switching our dependence from foreign oil to Maine-produced electricity isn’t likely to happen very soon, says Bartlett. “Right now, people can’t switch to electric cars and heating – if they did, we’d be in trouble.” So was one of the fundamental premises of the task force false, or at least misleading?" https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-swept-task-force-set-the-rules/From Part 3 – On Wind-Required New Transmission Lines Finally, the building of enormous, high-voltage transmission lines that the regional electricity system operator says are required to move substantial amounts of wind power to markets south of Maine was never even discussed by the task force – an omission that Mills said will come to haunt the state.“If you try to put 2,500 or 3,000 megawatts in northern or eastern Maine – oh, my god, try to build the transmission!” said Mills. “It’s not just the towers, it’s the lines – that’s when I begin to think that the goal is a little farfetched.” https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/flaws-in-bill-like-skating-with-dull-skates/
