The Town of Jonesport approved the placement of 3 wind turbines in our town last fall and KEAN Energy, LLC has put up equipment and is now in the process of testing the winds to determine the effectiveness of placing these turbines in Jonesport.  When the initial meeting was held I was one of 12 people who voted against this project (out of 60 votes) and we had no one to speak to the opposition. At that time I was not aware of this group (Citizens Task Force on Wind Power).  KEAN Energy, LLC is now holding another meeting next Tuesday, September 21st from 6:00-8:00 at the Town Office to inform the public about the project and the regulatory process and to seek public comment on the proposal. I am looking for someone to come and speak to the opposition of having these 3 wind turbines placed in our town.  From what I have heard they need a variance because they would be placing them on some wetlands. Is there anyone out there that could help me out??

Hi Nancy. Has anyone replied to you? I'm so sorry there isn't more time (could you request another meeting at a later date, which ight give you time to organize an informational meeting to address some of the issues/problems with wind turbines?)

Please let me know if anyone from the Task Force has been in contact with you.

All my best... and chin up, Nancy. The facts are available. The hard part will be to get people to listen.

I know this is very short notice but last week I did try and call Dr. Monique Aniel (her number which is listed on this website was not a working number) also Brad Blake (I left a message but he did not call me back) also Steve Thurston but no one answers at that number. The town has promised a tax reduction to the land owners and of course that is all that anyone is listening to at this point. Nancy Hallett
Okay. Let me get you Monique's phone number. It's not listed, so I want to make sure it'sokay to give it out first, okay? I was just speaking with Brad, too... I'll give him a holler.

Don't give up. We're a small group and this problem is growing exponentially every day... we're rushing to keep caught up. I'll be back with you, or will have Monique, Steve or Brad get hold of you.

xoxo

Hi Nancy,
Ow, my spirit is with you. If Steve Thurston, Dr. and Monique Aniel, Dan McKay and Karen Pease gave you a list of questions to ask the wind people, you will find their answers baffling.
Try to record the meeting.
I too am fighting a money hungry town office. The money will not wash,, but we need an economics specialist to explain this.
Jonesport is another beautiful, hidden gem.
Wind Poweer is a money scheme and will be regretted. Once on board, you fight for your life; BUT KNOW YOU ARE NOT ALONE . alice barnett

Maine Center For Public Interest Reporting – Three Part Series: A CRITICAL LOOK AT MAINE’S WIND ACT

******** IF LINKS BELOW DON'T WORK, GOOGLE THEM*********

(excerpts) From Part 1 – On Maine’s Wind Law “Once the committee passed the wind energy bill on to the full House and Senate, lawmakers there didn’t even debate it. They passed it unanimously and with no discussion. House Majority Leader Hannah Pingree, a Democrat from North Haven, says legislators probably didn’t know how many turbines would be constructed in Maine if the law’s goals were met." . – Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting, August 2010 https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-power-bandwagon-hits-bumps-in-the-road-3/From Part 2 – On Wind and Oil Yet using wind energy doesn’t lower dependence on imported foreign oil. That’s because the majority of imported oil in Maine is used for heating and transportation. And switching our dependence from foreign oil to Maine-produced electricity isn’t likely to happen very soon, says Bartlett. “Right now, people can’t switch to electric cars and heating – if they did, we’d be in trouble.” So was one of the fundamental premises of the task force false, or at least misleading?" https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-swept-task-force-set-the-rules/From Part 3 – On Wind-Required New Transmission Lines Finally, the building of enormous, high-voltage transmission lines that the regional electricity system operator says are required to move substantial amounts of wind power to markets south of Maine was never even discussed by the task force – an omission that Mills said will come to haunt the state.“If you try to put 2,500 or 3,000 megawatts in northern or eastern Maine – oh, my god, try to build the transmission!” said Mills. “It’s not just the towers, it’s the lines – that’s when I begin to think that the goal is a little farfetched.” https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/flaws-in-bill-like-skating-with-dull-skates/
