Wind Farm Mass Attack: Wind Turbines Collapsing & Combusting Around the World

Wind Turbines

Collapsing & Combusting Around the World

The number of cases involving turbines collapsing, self immolating or throwing their blades to the four winds (aka “component liberation”) has become so common that, if we were a tad cynical, we would go so far to suggest the possibility of some kind of pattern, along the lines proffered by Mr Bond’s nemesis, Goldfinger: “Once is happenstance. Twice is coincidence. Three times it’s enemy action”.

This collection of stories from the US, UK, Germany and Canada suggests either enemy action or a product with a thoroughly hopeless design.

Yeah, the last time there was a forest fire in that location about 15 years ago it went on for about 3 days. And there is plenty of slash in that area now because of timber harvesting in the last few years. On that type and extent of fire the Maine forest service is in charge with local support. A fire like that down in the slash can have flare ups for days, especially at the end of a really dry summer.

Well, supposedly, Cianbro has a specially trained unit to respond to rescue in the nacelle. I'm guessing with the difficulties involved with blades falling off or breaking or outright nacelle fire, that Cianbro is also hands off with those situations. Local firefighters are trained in rescue in close quarters, but not a couple of feet in the air. Some technician has a heart attack in the nacelle, none of the local firefighters are going up there to treat him - or to bring him down to the ambulance. I was the only one at the meetings who questioned Pisgah on the plan for emergency response and safety.

Not that there will be a Cianbro team nearby to fight a fire, they are or should be specialists in fighting that type of fire at that height, and the potential electrical hazards that may still exist since there may be a potential for upward of 115kv still sitting within the control/generator compartment.

The local fire fighters should be more concentrated on the Forest / fields surrounding the area. With specific training in Forest fire first response.

What a coincidence. Hubby had his first 'training' session on response to the Pisgah Mountain turbines on Wednesday evening. My memory of the agreement with the Town is that Pisgah was to pay for special training with Bangor Fire for response. Basically our Eddington Fire Department personnel watched video's of turbine fires and accidents and established that their policy is to not attempt to fight any turbine fires; any emergency rescue is the responsibility of a Cianbro response team. From where? The Eddington crew will assist when the Cianbro team gets the evacuated person(s) to a safe area. Would we allow such a hands off situation with other industrial facilities? There will be a site visit for the department come summer. Well, at least they didn't try to get their new tanker up that access road last week. Word is that Clifton will have a vote in February to establish a tax sheltering TIF for Pisgah taxes. How ironic that the Town of Clifton relies on sharing with Holden and Eddington to provide schools for Clifton kids and emergency response for Clifton fire and rescue and EMS needs, but wants to shut the door on sharing Clifton's enhanced tax situation. Some towns have threatened to break up school districts when one town seeds a TIF to prevent sharing the largesse. How short sighted our town government has been ever since the wind energy skimmers came to town.

(excerpts) From Part 1 – On Maine’s Wind Law “Once the committee passed the wind energy bill on to the full House and Senate, lawmakers there didn’t even debate it. They passed it unanimously and with no discussion. House Majority Leader Hannah Pingree, a Democrat from North Haven, says legislators probably didn’t know how many turbines would be constructed in Maine if the law’s goals were met." . – Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting, August 2010 https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-power-bandwagon-hits-bumps-in-the-road-3/From Part 2 – On Wind and Oil Yet using wind energy doesn’t lower dependence on imported foreign oil. That’s because the majority of imported oil in Maine is used for heating and transportation. And switching our dependence from foreign oil to Maine-produced electricity isn’t likely to happen very soon, says Bartlett. “Right now, people can’t switch to electric cars and heating – if they did, we’d be in trouble.” So was one of the fundamental premises of the task force false, or at least misleading?" https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-swept-task-force-set-the-rules/From Part 3 – On Wind-Required New Transmission Lines Finally, the building of enormous, high-voltage transmission lines that the regional electricity system operator says are required to move substantial amounts of wind power to markets south of Maine was never even discussed by the task force – an omission that Mills said will come to haunt the state.“If you try to put 2,500 or 3,000 megawatts in northern or eastern Maine – oh, my god, try to build the transmission!” said Mills. “It’s not just the towers, it’s the lines – that’s when I begin to think that the goal is a little farfetched.” https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/flaws-in-bill-like-skating-with-dull-skates/
