Oakfield Ruined by First Wind (SunEdison, Whatever!) Turbines: Latest Photos
An erstwhile wind warrior grabbed his camera this week and sent in these sad photos of the Oakfield Wind project, still under construction, but with enough turbines up so the impact is clear. First Wind bamboozled the Town of Oakfield with a so-called collaboration with a poor town that was eager for tax revenues and landowners eager to get leasing income. Again, First Wind laughs all the way to the bank, having taken over the town at a cheap, rock-bottom price. Then DEP Commissioner Aho allowed First Wind to take the existing license and enormously expand it: 50 turbines, not 38; 479 ft tall structures, not 389 ft. Bigger, noisier, greater impact zone, including the high quality Pleasant Lake and Mattawamkeag Lake. All this with one lousy public comment meeting and not forcing First Wind to submit a new application with a new starting point for the permitting. Here are the results:
Which one is a "Farm"? The one with the hayfields? or the "Wind Farm"? It is an insult to real farms when sprawling industrial wind sites are called "Farms"
Beyond the roofline, the turbine blades lurk
The folks in this house will be hammered by noise when these huge turbines get cranking
Escape for some fishing? The turbines are present everywhere! If we don't stop industrial wind sprawl, every common pleasant scene that makes up our "Quality of Place" will be ruined.
More folks who will be living with the roar, the annoyance, the debilitation of their health after wind turbines go up behind their home. You can bet the leasing fees are not going to these victims!
So typical of the views of our Maine uplands, with mile after mile being turned into an industrial site so the wind thieves can rake in tax subsidies and sell Enron-inspired RECs. What is more disgusting is the Renewables mandates of southern New England states are what is fueling the proliferation of this scourge in our beautiful state.

These pics make me sick to my stomach. Tax farms amid real farms. All the industrial junk goes thru Lincoln amid police escorts and sirens like it was something of a parade to celebrate something like the 4th of July. Instead , it is a warning of what will happen if a complacent populace trusts in government and corporations as they convert our state into an industrial site. I recall the public fiasco in Island Falls when poor Gary was pelted by detritus from windsprawl butt kissers. How deftly he dodged and parried the hurled objects. He must surely be a master of the martial arts to keep talking and avoiding the wads of paper thrown at him. The people against the wind turbines were a minority that day, although it was heartening to see that there are some intelligent citizens in the area.

And let us not forget that those turbines are NOT compliant with the new noise regulations establishing the night tresholds at 42 dBa instead of 45.

As I recall there were numerous (like 28) noise easements purchased in Oakfield by First Wind. There were many homes with turbines on the hills on either side and within a few hundred feet of the house. There was no disclosure to these folks about the potential harmful effects of turbine noise, since the wind industry does not admit that turbine noise is harmful. These folks can't complain since they all signed gag orders.

Good morning, Brad! Thanks for the update on how commercial wind generators are still being placed in rural residential zoned areas and First Wind does not to talk about the fact that big commercial generator do not belong near homes! The loss of safety and happiness in our State Constitution needs to be properly address with The Governor and the DEP etc.! Yesterday a man from the Fort Kent area came to visit me and was very upset and he could already see several big generators from interstate 95, a sight that will bring most people to a reality that they do not like for several reasons!! Taxation without representation being one!! Lenny
