Wind developer seeks Special Permit to uproot its fleet of 63 turbines

It's vindicating for anti-wind activists like me to read criticisms of the wind industry by representatives of the the wind industry.

Illinois-  Renewable company claims 63 wind turbines, "are operating at a deficit", "are not efficient" and seeks to uproot them after only 13 yrs in operation according to management at  Dallas-based Leeward Renewable Energy that has applied for a Special Use Permit from Lee County Zoning Board.

True confessions of wind developers amuse me.

The Wind Energy Industry Tells the Truth as evidenced...

'AWEA 2009 and the wild west'

15 05 2009

"The dust has settled after the American Wind Energy Association's meeting and tradeshow in Chicago, IL last week."

"At this tradeshow, you could even find examples of modern day medicine shows."

"Promises of a brave new energy future based on eye-catching, grandiose claims. There's no way to know if these claims are valid because there's no time to check. If you're not on the bandwagon already you've missed the the opportunity."

"You could also find companies resting on their laurels. They are the "standard", but that "standard"
was established pre-1990. However, investment companies have nothing else to latch onto as a
benchmark. So some companies are in the catbird seat because they dominate the industry with old
science and technological superstition."

"Medicine shows were traveling horse and wagon teams which peddled miracle medications and
other products between various entertainment acts."

Wind Energy Industry Tells the Truth

http://bjdurk.newsvine.com/_news/2009/06/25/2968469-the-wind-energy...

Last known, Alvarez was with First Wind and SunEdison and, here, Alvarez speaks the Truth:

‘Power-Operations and
Strategy Clipper’s 2.5 MW
Liberty wind turbines malfunction’

“The largest wind turbine manufactured in the United States is running into some technical difficulty.
Clipper Windpower Inc.'s 2.5-MW Liberty wind turbines at the 20-MW Steel Winds facility in Lackawanna, N.Y., are malfunctioning due to faulty gear sets.

"At first, we were receiving great performance from the turbines," said Michael Alvarez, executive vice president and COO of UPC Wind Partners LLC, which co-owns the facility with BQ Energy LLC. "Over the summer, a gear-timing issue in the drive train's secondary stage was detected in some of Clipper Windpower's Liberty wind turbines at the Steel Winds site.

On a serious note, Alvarez is ENRON connected-

Enron executives named as defendants in UC class action suit (clip-):

The class action suit names 29 senior Enron executives and directors and the accounting firm of Arthur Andersen LLP as defendants. The list of defendants, based on documents previously filed with the court, includes James V. Derrick, Jr. has been Executive Vice President and General Counsel of the Company since July 1999, and prior to that was Senior Vice President and General Counsel. During the Class Period, Derrick sold 230,660 shares of his Enron stock for insider trading proceeds of $12.6 million.

Hannah Pingree on the Maine expedited wind law

Hannah Pingree - Director of Maine's Office of Innovation and the Future

"Once the committee passed the wind energy bill on to the full House and Senate, lawmakers there didn’t even debate it. They passed it unanimously and with no discussion. House Majority Leader Hannah Pingree, a Democrat from North Haven, says legislators probably didn’t know how many turbines would be constructed in Maine."

(excerpts) From Part 1 – On Maine’s Wind Law “Once the committee passed the wind energy bill on to the full House and Senate, lawmakers there didn’t even debate it. They passed it unanimously and with no discussion. House Majority Leader Hannah Pingree, a Democrat from North Haven, says legislators probably didn’t know how many turbines would be constructed in Maine if the law’s goals were met." . – Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting, August 2010 https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-power-bandwagon-hits-bumps-in-the-road-3/From Part 2 – On Wind and Oil Yet using wind energy doesn’t lower dependence on imported foreign oil. That’s because the majority of imported oil in Maine is used for heating and transportation. And switching our dependence from foreign oil to Maine-produced electricity isn’t likely to happen very soon, says Bartlett. “Right now, people can’t switch to electric cars and heating – if they did, we’d be in trouble.” So was one of the fundamental premises of the task force false, or at least misleading?" https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-swept-task-force-set-the-rules/From Part 3 – On Wind-Required New Transmission Lines Finally, the building of enormous, high-voltage transmission lines that the regional electricity system operator says are required to move substantial amounts of wind power to markets south of Maine was never even discussed by the task force – an omission that Mills said will come to haunt the state.“If you try to put 2,500 or 3,000 megawatts in northern or eastern Maine – oh, my god, try to build the transmission!” said Mills. “It’s not just the towers, it’s the lines – that’s when I begin to think that the goal is a little farfetched.” https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/flaws-in-bill-like-skating-with-dull-skates/
