Energy Secretary Moniz and Interior Secretary Jewell Announce New National Offshore Wind Strategy to Drive Deployment
BOSTON - U.S. Secretary of Energy Ernest Moniz and U.S. Secretary of the Interior Sally Jewell today announced the publication of a collaborative strategic plan to continue accelerating the development of offshore wind energy in the United States, the National Offshore Wind Strategy: Facilitating the Development of th... which could help enable 86 gigawatts of offshore wind in the United States by 2050. The strategy details the current state of offshore wind in the United States, presents the actions and innovations needed to reduce deployment costs and timelines, and provides a roadmap to support the growth and success of the industry.
The announcement of the report followed a tour of the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center’s Wind Technology Testing Center (WTTC) by the two cabinet members, White House Deputy Assistant to the President for Energy and Climate Change Dan Utech, Bureau of Ocean Energy Management Director Abigail Hopper, the Energy Department’s Director of the Wind Energy Technologies Office Jose Zayas, and local and federal elected officials. The WTTC, located in the Charlestown neighborhood of Boston, is specifically designed to help the wind industry test the next generation of land-based and offshore wind turbine blades. The WTTC opened in 2011 and was funded by the Department of Energy (DOE) under the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act, and is an example of a crucial investment made during the Obama Administration to help the United States maintain its position as a leader in wind electricity generation. This new wind energy strategy is a part of President Obama’s Climate Action Plan that will create American jobs and cut carbon pollution by developing America's clean energy resources..."

Clipper Wind was formerly the supplier of wind turbines to UPC First Wind. First Wind unsuccessfully sought a writ of attachment of $60 million against Clipper Wind that First Wind claimed did not deliver wind turbines that First Wind had contracted to purchase.

Kind of hard to imagine one million acres of off shore wind turbines. What effect will all those blades and all that infrasound have on wildlife? Oh, I forgot. Nobody cares. It's all about symbolism.
