Like a lot of Maine citizens, I didn't really know much about the wind turbines. We all read about them, I read where some complained about them. I didn't give it much thought at the time, probably like many other residents. One day last Winter, I decided to ice fish at Ellis (Roxbury) Pond, a first & last trip for me. Here I was on a beautiful day, the fishing started off great and then I started to hear them. I describe the sound as a pulsing "whooshing" noise, it was extremely annoying, to the point that my friend & I both agreed to go home. I will never go back there again.

I certainly can understand the frustration and heartbreak, of those who were jilted into contracts for the placement of the turbines on their property.

Today, I stumbled onto the web site of Citizens' Task Force on Wind Power-Maine. I'm very concerned about the continued placement of these turbines, as I live at the base of a mountain that would be a likely spot to place them. I am an abutter, not the owner of the property, which puts me at risk. I already have some minor problems with a communications tower nearby, that causes unwanted radio transmissions through my computer speakers.

Being a senior citizen, I realize that the younger generation has more to fear than I do, but I would like to live the rest of my life in peace & quiet.

I'm pleased that I found this web site. I will encourage others to view it as well.

Thank you Robert Tiner for taking the time to write this post. I shared it on FB. Just read a little article about the Energy law passed in 2005 which was the precursor to Baldaci's expedited wind law. "In August 2005, the U.S. Congress and then-President George W. Bush blessed the oil and gas industry with a game-changer: the Energy Policy Act of 2005. The Act exempted the industry from federal regulatory enforcement of the Safe Drinking Water Act, the Clean Water Act and the National Environmental Policy Act."

It takes a village of democrats and republicans.

I would encourage Robert to find other important websites, which he can do from this site.

Getting the message out and educating people takes time. By the time Mainers realize the turbines are a big Wall Street scam we will likely be plastered with thousands of them. I hope I am wrong.

(excerpts) From Part 1 – On Maine’s Wind Law “Once the committee passed the wind energy bill on to the full House and Senate, lawmakers there didn’t even debate it. They passed it unanimously and with no discussion. House Majority Leader Hannah Pingree, a Democrat from North Haven, says legislators probably didn’t know how many turbines would be constructed in Maine if the law’s goals were met." . – Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting, August 2010 https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-power-bandwagon-hits-bumps-in-the-road-3/From Part 2 – On Wind and Oil Yet using wind energy doesn’t lower dependence on imported foreign oil. That’s because the majority of imported oil in Maine is used for heating and transportation. And switching our dependence from foreign oil to Maine-produced electricity isn’t likely to happen very soon, says Bartlett. “Right now, people can’t switch to electric cars and heating – if they did, we’d be in trouble.” So was one of the fundamental premises of the task force false, or at least misleading?" https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-swept-task-force-set-the-rules/From Part 3 – On Wind-Required New Transmission Lines Finally, the building of enormous, high-voltage transmission lines that the regional electricity system operator says are required to move substantial amounts of wind power to markets south of Maine was never even discussed by the task force – an omission that Mills said will come to haunt the state.“If you try to put 2,500 or 3,000 megawatts in northern or eastern Maine – oh, my god, try to build the transmission!” said Mills. “It’s not just the towers, it’s the lines – that’s when I begin to think that the goal is a little farfetched.” https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/flaws-in-bill-like-skating-with-dull-skates/
