Fake CMP / Iberodrola employees or another Wind Energy or Grid Solar Tactic.

AUGUSTA, Maine — Central Maine Power is urging customers to be wary of door-to-door energy sales people who may be misrepresenting themselves as CMP employees.

According to CMP,  the company has been receiving many customer complaints about the supplier’s salespeople misrepresenting themselves as working for, or on behalf of CMP, demanding to see copies of customers’ CMP bills, and for providing false and misleading information about energy prices.

“CMP is not affiliated with any energy supplier, and we do not have people going door-to-door demanding customers produce their bill,” said Gail Rice, spokesperson for CMP. “We want to warn our customers they are under no obligation to provide account details or any personal information to any sales representative, no matter how persistent or aggressive that representative becomes.”

Customers who believe they’ve been subjected to an energy supplier’s deceptive sales practices should call the MPUC at 1-800-452-4699. To file a complaint on line, click here.

Maybe this is where, "WE the people" if switching, negotiate as they do, long term contracts at a very low rate. Use their tactics. [ just a thought ] Maybe a driving force to reduce rates to a level that excess profits are not provided and sent to Spain or other nations. If they attempt to do this, schedule a meeting  on your terms, at your location with someone of authority to negotiate such a contract. If it works to your advantage, fine, if not they will not return anytime soon.

I don't think that it is for wind/solar; it is that the 'competitive supplier' market to residential consumers seems to be finally heating up. That was the point of deregulation, afterall. But the competitive suppliers have heretofore gone after big industrial loads.

I chose a competitive supplier in 2011 and got a good deal until the contract was up at the end of 2014. It is a gamble and Boston Globe had an article about similar door-to-door sales pressure. They said it often was not worth the switch, to learn what termination fees are and so on. But don't give account info, on phone either. They say it is as risky as giving out your credit card.

It is also difficult to compare rates, because the regulated utilities post their rates at different times. There isn't mich regulation or consumer protection for the competitive suppliers and their fuel mix can be 'dirtier' than the regulated utility.

The sales force for solar accosts me on the internet, not door step, and there is not much push for microturbines. Not many suitable places.

(excerpts) From Part 1 – On Maine’s Wind Law “Once the committee passed the wind energy bill on to the full House and Senate, lawmakers there didn’t even debate it. They passed it unanimously and with no discussion. House Majority Leader Hannah Pingree, a Democrat from North Haven, says legislators probably didn’t know how many turbines would be constructed in Maine if the law’s goals were met." . – Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting, August 2010 https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-power-bandwagon-hits-bumps-in-the-road-3/From Part 2 – On Wind and Oil Yet using wind energy doesn’t lower dependence on imported foreign oil. That’s because the majority of imported oil in Maine is used for heating and transportation. And switching our dependence from foreign oil to Maine-produced electricity isn’t likely to happen very soon, says Bartlett. “Right now, people can’t switch to electric cars and heating – if they did, we’d be in trouble.” So was one of the fundamental premises of the task force false, or at least misleading?" https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-swept-task-force-set-the-rules/From Part 3 – On Wind-Required New Transmission Lines Finally, the building of enormous, high-voltage transmission lines that the regional electricity system operator says are required to move substantial amounts of wind power to markets south of Maine was never even discussed by the task force – an omission that Mills said will come to haunt the state.“If you try to put 2,500 or 3,000 megawatts in northern or eastern Maine – oh, my god, try to build the transmission!” said Mills. “It’s not just the towers, it’s the lines – that’s when I begin to think that the goal is a little farfetched.” https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/flaws-in-bill-like-skating-with-dull-skates/
