Amen. This governor, and the taxpayers in Maine, want the facts, not the hype that was sold the the State of Maine by the industrial wind complex. Let's face it, these turbines are prone to failures and inherant inefficiencies, because the wind…

This is an excellent point. We need to fully understand the impact of offshsore wind turbine siting on lobster. Maine lobster is our brand. It is possible that improper siting could send lobster larvae to offshore sites. It is also possible that…

Long Islander, Good to see that you can't totally leave us ;) Great article! I think we are finally getting some traction in terms of the economic impacts. Health effects is going a little more slowly, but I think I am starting to see a subtle…

You are absolutely right, Karen. Unfortunately for our cause, we don't like to lie. We shouldn't need to. We have good facts. It's hard to fight a liar when they have both media and government support.

This is the best news I've heard in a couple of years. It's good to see that investor estimates were so low. What does this mean for their future? Does anyone know?

If we can see Katahdin from this spot, Anyone on Katahdin will have to look at these eyesores, complete with flashing red lights at night. And any investor in this mess will be making a grave error unless, of course, they are betting on the stock…

Mary Beth Nolette commented on Long Islander's blog post 'MPBN Asks The Candidates: "Do you approve of the state's current wind power policy? "'
I actually heard this interview on MPBN and LePage had a lot more to say regarding energy policy. He came out stronly against wind based on economics. He believes that we should be using hydro power instead of tearing down dams saying that the…

Mary Beth Nolette commented on Ron Huber's blog post 'NRCM calls for Maine mountain top removal, so that West Virginians will stop removing their mountaintops.'
You have GOT to be kidding. MAINE DOESN'T BURN COAL. We burn biomass, mostly sustainable wood products. We use hydroelectric power. We do not need outrageously expensive and destructive wind. And for that matter, how about cleaning up that…

Mary Beth Nolette commented on Long Islander's blog post 'The wind industry is not responding well to the latest news from the U.S. Senate'
I can start breathing now. Our senators were ready to vote for this bill. We need to stay on their cases in regards to wind issues. I suspect that they are both getting big donations from wind related industries. Maybe we could find out?

Mary Beth Nolette commented on Gary Campbell's blog post 'Need advice: First Wind trying to redefine expedited zone again.'
Sorry Gary. This is disheartening. First Wind has dealt with so many barriers that they can predict pretty far in advance what to expect from the opposition. Has anyone there contacted the folks at the Maine Wilderness Camps? They may be willing to…

Sign up today and lend your voice and presence to the steadily rising tide that will soon sweep the scourge of useless and wretched turbines from our beloved Maine countryside. For many of us, our little pieces of paradise have been hard won. Did the carpetbaggers think they could simply steal them from us?

We have the facts on our side. We have the truth on our side. All we need now is YOU.

Maine Center For Public Interest Reporting – Three Part Series: A CRITICAL LOOK AT MAINE’S WIND ACT (excerpts) From Part 1 – On Maine’s Wind Law “Once the committee passed the wind energy bill on to the full House and Senate, lawmakers there didn’t even debate it. They passed it unanimously and with no discussion. House Majority Leader Hannah Pingree, a Democrat from North Haven, says legislators probably didn’t know how many turbines would be constructed in Maine if the law’s goals were met." . – Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting, August 2010 http://pinetreewatchdog.org/2010/08/09/wind-power-bandwagon-hits-bumps-in-the-road-3/ From Part 2 – On Wind and Oil Yet using wind energy doesn’t lower dependence on imported foreign oil. That’s because the majority of imported oil in Maine is used for heating and transportation. And switching our dependence from foreign oil to Maine-produced electricity isn’t likely to happen very soon, says Bartlett. “Right now, people can’t switch to electric cars and heating – if they did, we’d be in trouble.” So was one of the fundamental premises of the task force false, or at least misleading?" http://pinetreewatchdog.org/2010/08/11/wind-swept-task-force-set-the-rules/ From Part 3 – On Wind-Required New Transmission Lines Finally, the building of enormous, high-voltage transmission lines that the regional electricity system operator says are required to move substantial amounts of wind power to markets south of Maine was never even discussed by the task force – an omission that Mills said will come to haunt the state.“If you try to put 2,500 or 3,000 megawatts in northern or eastern Maine – oh, my god, try to build the transmission!” said Mills. “It’s not just the towers, it’s the lines – that’s when I begin to think that the goal is a little farfetched.” http://pinetreewatchdog.org/2010/08/12/flaws-in-bill-like-skating-with-dull-skates/
