I was serching MEGIS and somehow missed this! Thank you very much! I will get the metadata and see exactly what it includes ( and omits) for met towers sited in Maine. Does anyone know if the regulations of any town where a met tower is set gets to have access to the met data? I would think that it should be a split sample so that we can be sure if sited it will produce. Also are these towers capable of carrying real time cameras to account for birds in area as well as sound measurements to set a background?

Gary, I agree with you--this is way out of date. Did you receive my rather lengthy e-mail regarding a met tower map and a number of other topics of discussion? It probably has been 3-4 weeks by now. I was wondering why I hadn't heard from you.

Are you aware of the Met towers in Dyer Brook and Island Falls? Those would be a continuation of First Wind's Oakfield project, which has been "fast tracked" by the state.

This evening I added some wind farm models to this website. Are there any site layout maps avalable for wind farms in Maine? I'd like to try modeling of one of those. If you like the results it might be worth it for someone in Maine learning how to do it (I'm in Michigan). The best wind farm proposal to model would be one with a view that a lot of people in Maine might recognize.

Great! First Wind is a house of cards business model which happens to be on life support. The harder they must work, the longer it takes for them to grab the 30% stimulus grants, the better it is for Maine. The less promising their balance sheet looks the less likely they are to find financing or a buyout. Dog them. Bite hard and don't let go.

Eben, great job with all of the updates. Hadn't seen much activity from you lately and wondered what you were doing. Have been working on the Google Earth segment as I have a chance but wasn't sure if anyone agreed with me. It can be accurate by using the GPS coordinates and then people can measure distances to their property right from each turbine if they want.

Cathy, I was thinking a Google Earth/Maps Met tower map would be the best way to go. Please let me know when you have it up and running and I'll link to it from the top navigation bar. Thanks!

Awesome Cathy and Gary. If one or both of you could take on the "duty" of monitoring and updating this list, it would be a huge and crucial contribution to our cause. Can you be the "Developer Detection Committee" for us??? These developers hire professional advance people at the best public relations firms to sink their roots in a community before any of us know what's up. They also sign land deals to introduce the power of money. We need to be there early to sop up some of the snake oil that they dispense.

I have posted most of the existing sites and proposed ones as well as Met Twrs on a Google Earth map on my computer and am working on getting it out to be shared. Will get back on it now that the "Winter Break" is coming to an end.

This is good info. The earlier we know that Big Wind is scoping for sites, the better off we are in interdiction.

Maine Center For Public Interest Reporting – Three Part Series: A CRITICAL LOOK AT MAINE’S WIND ACT (excerpts) From Part 1 – On Maine’s Wind Law “Once the committee passed the wind energy bill on to the full House and Senate, lawmakers there didn’t even debate it. They passed it unanimously and with no discussion. House Majority Leader Hannah Pingree, a Democrat from North Haven, says legislators probably didn’t know how many turbines would be constructed in Maine if the law’s goals were met." . – Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting, August 2010 http://pinetreewatchdog.org/2010/08/09/wind-power-bandwagon-hits-bumps-in-the-road-3/ From Part 2 – On Wind and Oil Yet using wind energy doesn’t lower dependence on imported foreign oil. That’s because the majority of imported oil in Maine is used for heating and transportation. And switching our dependence from foreign oil to Maine-produced electricity isn’t likely to happen very soon, says Bartlett. “Right now, people can’t switch to electric cars and heating – if they did, we’d be in trouble.” So was one of the fundamental premises of the task force false, or at least misleading?" http://pinetreewatchdog.org/2010/08/11/wind-swept-task-force-set-the-rules/ From Part 3 – On Wind-Required New Transmission Lines Finally, the building of enormous, high-voltage transmission lines that the regional electricity system operator says are required to move substantial amounts of wind power to markets south of Maine was never even discussed by the task force – an omission that Mills said will come to haunt the state.“If you try to put 2,500 or 3,000 megawatts in northern or eastern Maine – oh, my god, try to build the transmission!” said Mills. “It’s not just the towers, it’s the lines – that’s when I begin to think that the goal is a little farfetched.” http://pinetreewatchdog.org/2010/08/12/flaws-in-bill-like-skating-with-dull-skates/
