Another Maine Government Move to Crush Maine People Who Only Want to Stay Warm.

  • What is going on with RGGI and electric heat pumps?
  • RGGI CO2 allowance costs have gone up 500% in the last 6 Years. $5.27 per allowance to $26.73 per allowance.
  • RGGI costs add 2% to electric bills which, in turn, raise the cost of heating with heat pumps.
  • The New Model Rule being adopted by the ten States in RGGI are extremely aggressive and will increase allowance prices significantly.
  • OIl prices are receding in Maine:  $3.67 in early 2025 to $3.50 in early 2026.
  • The trajectory of electric prices are trending up as RGGI allowance prices increase, while oil prices trends down.
  • As this happens, what is the Maine Government doing?
  • They are pushing RGGI to accelerate electricity prices by lowering allowable emissions from natural gas plants.
  • RGGI is a failure. Maine people will be switching back to oil heat and the grid operators will be burning oil to make electricity.
  • The Maine Government is failing to keep Maine affordable.

I have three heat pumps with 6 outlets, costing $24000, but I have not used them when the temps are 15 F or less, because then it is much less costly/kWh to use my three propane stoves that need no electrical connection.

My total energy savings have not exceeded $200 per year, for each of 5 years

If amortization costs are applied at 6% over 15 years, I lose $2000 per year

I will lose more, if there are maintenance costs
