Apalled Environment Maine Letter Writer Seemingly Involved in Typical Orchestrated Effort

Seems this renewable energy "advocate" wrote very much the same letter for Environment Maryland! in the Baltimore Sun and the Delaware Gazette. Also the BDN.

As these events continue to increase in frequency and intensity, we need states like Maryland to continue to act boldly in slashing global warming pollution. Maryland's next step should include strengthening the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative to reduce regional power plant pollution by more than half in the next 15 years.

Extreme weather often leadsto increased health care needs, as well as increased costs. Maine must continue to act boldly in slashing global warming pollution by strengthening the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative to reduce regional power plant pollution by more than half in the next 15 years.

Environment Maine Appalled at March Snowstorm in Maine and Prescribes Renewable Energy as the Cure

On March 21, Cumberland and York counties experienced a snowstorm that canceled school and created traffic accidents across the counties..........we must power our country with 100 percent renewable energy.

MOVE-ON and the SIERRA CLUB have a computer driven 'machine' which can mobilize millions of letter writers to send a version of the same message to every public policy maker and media outlet all the time. You can't change the header, i.e. support solarization, etc.; but you can modify the body of the message to say what you want.

In other words you are the 'John Henry's and competing against a steam driven engine. You're losing this type of battle.

What you can't lose is a heroic protest...chaining yourself to a wind turbine or showing up a public policy discussions wearing protest garb....otherwise you're just spitting in the wind.

Even individual protests can be made large...a puppet or sign or costume is one way.

Using lawyers to fight industrial wind projects may be unavoidable but in some ways is tantamount to donning uniforms in the American Revolutionary war simply because the redcoats have theirs on. Sometimes it feels like we're heading for another American Revolution. This time it's not the British we're fighting but rather the corporations and "uniparty" that has rigged the system against the average citizen. Yes, lawyers may be needed at times, but there are other ways to win this fight, so long as people have the right to assemble and peacefully pronouncedly protest.

Nicely put Paula D.

I see no need to hide under falsities of identity or pseudonyms, in fact WANT them to KNOW who I am ! It only promotes a greater respect when working people to put forth the truths to be upfront, and ultimately fleshes out the could/would  be hateful and corrupt once the secret identities are fount out.

Rumors and Gossip, bring it on, but only if you can fabricate such a tale that it is impossible to believe...... Those that listen to these snippets are just as guilty in a slight form of ignorance at first but as life goes on they reinforce their own ignorance and rely on other ignorant people for their source of truth. A truth they guide their lives by until such time they get into a situation that facts become unbelievable. Such may be the case with Wind Power and its placement in forested lands, where trees must be cleared to provide a stronger clear passage through their murdering blades. Such may be the case where Mountainsides / Hill sides, habitat, forest, waterways, wildlife must be destroyed to make a level plateau for wind or clearings for solar, to serve the needs of the inconsiderate ignorance of wasteful people that adorn themselves with the title of being a "Greenie".

As to our Rights, Lawyers, Politicians..... Our rights are clearly written in the Constitution though they have been trampled by corporations, criminals, politicians, lawyers, the courts and yes even some of our so called neighbors of community. They are clearly written though we seldom insist on them by aggressively challenging a court (minority opinion) ruling to correct a bad ruling. We allow these wrongs to persist by allowing laws to be tweaked in favor of those would be "Plantation Owners" of Maine. These Rights within the constitution are the same rights they use against us and can not do without in order to achieve their objectives. The largest problem we have is allowing Court interpretation of Laws to prevail, without an absolute consent by a vote of the people to ratify or deny that decision. The First problem though is that we do not stand up as individuals, communities, counties or states to reclaim our rights by demand.

Well, having been the subject of social media hate-mongering, I would be hesitant to dismiss it as an ineffective tool for motivating people. Like most tools, it can be used for good or bad. It has the unfortunate ability to allow people to hide behind false identities or pseudonyms. After its use by some persons in our town, I can understand better how lynch-mobs and witch hunts can happen.

The neighborhood store used to be the means for spreading rumors and gossip, now you can do that without leaving home and have it spread all over the world in seconds. And you can add some really vivid pictures and cartoons. Truth and honesty are not required.

I had a more benign idea of it's use for our purposes. For example, links to factual sources. Links to some eye-opening You tube videos. Posting of actual documents. First hand stories of citizens experiences when wind comes to town. A counter to the all things green are good message that comes at us from all directions.

As to relying on lawyers to get things done effectively ....  guess it depends on what you want to accomplish. I've certainly had an education in legal strategies over the past six years, and how to use legal scare tactics to achieve your goals. Nothing like putting a lawyer or two in front of a small town select board or planning board to up the ante. Nothing like delivering a thick document of legal citations and law court precedents. Impressive, intimidating, overwhelming to the average citizen who was just trying to serve his town, or a citizen just trying to have his grievance heard.

There are legal battles to win, but there is also a hearts and minds battle to win. For that challenge, it seems to me, the personal approach is the most likely to be effective. This wind assault on our state is lethal to our sense of community. It divides us from our neighbors. To counteract that, we need an open line communication; not the prepared argument of a lawyer. When the people of Maine can see themselves as a community of like-minded people with common values that are under attack, then we can avail ourselves of talented lawyers and honest politicians to help us enact laws that protect those values.

Social media is a way for people to "vent" opinions & frustrations...but that is all...social media can communicate info but will never accomplish anything else...

Legal "beagles", lawyers, with correct an legally binding, information & precedents...is, unfortunately, the only way, with cooperative good media outlets.   Expensive, but really only effective way to do things....and I am NO fan of lawyers...except that the wind companies or either owned by or run by lawyers.

Good point, Paula.  I find when I post wind info articles on Facebook, they are mostly ignored, but if good visuals are posted, there is a reaction.  Eric Tuttle has some great visuals.  Out of sight, out of mind.  We have to keep Maine front and center, visually.

Comment by Paula D Kelso on March 31, 2016 at 10:00pm

Well, a lot of people use social media to express opinions and share info. My husband, who doesn't avail himself of this website brought me an article to read on his smartphone Facebook the other day.

It was a 2012 article about King Angus and the whole sordid history to that point. He faithfully reads the BDN, paper version,  every day but the revelations in that Facebook posting was news to him.

I don't do Facebook or tweet, whatever that is, and I don't read the BDN unless someone here alerts me to an article. So I'm guessing it might be good to see if we can get more out into the social media instead of trying to get the traditional media to step up and do their job. It does seem that the BDN blog entries are more the anti, than the pro's these days. But I'm afraid we're preaching to the choir most of the time. Although, I think a lot of people take note and don't feel the need to get involved because it doesn't directly affect them and/or they see no way to make any difference. They're not being asked to vote for someone or for something if they don't live in an affected area. Just being subtly reinforced in the green is good mythology. We need to just keep plugging away at it and use every available way to get out the truth about what's happening.

Media, especially in Maine, is part of the problem...the corruption runs deep (and it pays very well too)...especially when former Maine officials are now on wind company pay rolls...(including a former Governor)...and of course Angus...with deep pockets in Wind...and Maine's "environmental" also have deep interests in wind and other projects...($$$$$ go long & deep convoluted ways to many).

Stop the subsidies, tax credits and guaranteed loans at Federal level and then wind power, etc will come to a grinding halt that it should...when money dries up...then people will feel the need to talk about the problems...including media.  Unions also have deep pockets, Steel workers, electrical and teamsters...they feed the decision makers in many ways...

That’s because the majority of imported oil in Maine is used for heating and transportation. And switching our dependence from foreign oil to Maine-produced electricity isn’t likely to happen very soon, says Bartlett. “Right now, people can’t switch to electric cars and heating – if they did, we’d be in trouble.” So was one of the fundamental premises of the task force false, or at least misleading?" https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-swept-task-force-set-the-rules/From Part 3 – On Wind-Required New Transmission Lines Finally, the building of enormous, high-voltage transmission lines that the regional electricity system operator says are required to move substantial amounts of wind power to markets south of Maine was never even discussed by the task force – an omission that Mills said will come to haunt the state.“If you try to put 2,500 or 3,000 megawatts in northern or eastern Maine – oh, my god, try to build the transmission!” said Mills. “It’s not just the towers, it’s the lines – that’s when I begin to think that the goal is a little farfetched.” https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/flaws-in-bill-like-skating-with-dull-skates/
