Bill aims at requring Maine’s fleet of 3,000 school buses to be all-electric

Electric school buses latest stop on Maine’s climate-change journey

Just like cars, e-buses are more expensive than their internal-combustion peers – $300,000 or so compared with less than $150,000. Range is an issue, too. Today’s batteries can power a school bus for roughly 100 to 130 miles.

Cold weather and long rural routes – common factors in Maine – could reduce that range. And then there’s the cost of installing charging stations, and training staff to drive and maintain something different.

The process would start this year, with the department setting aside money for e-buses as part of its ongoing vehicle addition and replacement program for school districts.

Sen. Eloise Vitelli, D-Arrowsic, the bill’s lead sponsor supports Gov. Janet Mills’ goals to reduce Maine’s greenhouse gas emissions by 45 percent in 10 years and 80 percent by 2050. After becoming aware of an e-bus program in Massachusetts, she sought to create some incentives in Maine.

“Given where Maine is with climate change,” Vitelli said, “school buses would be a good thing to add to the mix.”

Did a 1922 Article Warn of Oceans Warming?

A newspaper article warning that climate change was melting Arctic ice and disrupting wildlife was published nearly a century ago.

The Arctic ocean is warming up, icebergs are growing scarcer and in some places the seals are finding the water too hot, according to a report to the Commerce Department yesterday from Consulafft, at Bergen, Norway.

Reports from fishermen, seal hunters and explorers all point to a radical change in climate conditions and hitherto unheard-of temperatures in the Arctic zone. Exploration expeditions report that scarcely any ice has been met as far north as 81 degrees 29 minutes. Soundings to a depth of 3,100 meters showed the gulf stream still very warm. Great masses of ice have been replaced by moraines of earth and stones, the report continued, while at many points well known glaciers have entirely disappeared.

Very few seals and no white fish are found in the eastern Arctic, while vast shoals of herring and smelts which have never before ventured so far north, are being encountered in the old seal fishing grounds.

I apologize, I neglected to mention that this report was from November 2, 1922. As reported by the AP and published in The Washington Post — 88 years ago!

Eloise halted work on her bill introduced into the energy committee on exploring natural gas energy sources. Is a merger in the works or was the electric bus bill in the wrong committee?

Mills is just a mouthpiece for the likes of Vitelli.

They say jump, and Mills asks how high.

She surely knows she is being played, but it does not matter, because her friends and family are cashing in on the bonanza, and the gullible Maine voters chime right in, because they have been led to believe they are saving the world.

Such crappola!

Vitelli has proven time ane again she is a Mills cheerleader and obedient watergirl! In a rational and intelligent world this would have been researched and studied by competent and knowledgeable people and summarily rejected! As Augusta goes that will not be happening for at least three years! The absolute idiocy that has taken over is mindbogglingly, but it also comes with an under current of evil directed at making the state uninhabitable by small business, people on fixed incomes, and free thinking people! As with this bus fiasco it also goes with Seth "the commie" Berry's attempt to take over CMP. The old adage goes "when you see someone you don't trust waving their hand, watch what the other hand is doing! This was the plan when Mills out of the blue threw her support behind the corridor without any warning. Since then it's been primary on the enviro's mind, with false facts and big money! All the while with hardly a whisper from the fake media goes accelerated permitting for big wind and a questionable MPUC which oversees CMP, and this absolute abomination TCI agreement. All will be pushes to remove those "undesirable Mainers" by forcing them out through feeling futility.

The earth has been warming since about the late 1600s, according to historical records and paintings in European museums.

The warming has been going on for about 325 years?

And this has been such a good thing, because the population expanded from 1 billion to almost 8 billion in 2020.

On top of that, we found fossil fuels to make it all possible.

In the US, about 80% of all energy is from fossil earth fuel.

Everything surrounding us was built with fossil fuel.

Our food is grown with fossil fuel

Our clothes are made from fossil fuels.

The few percent of wind and solar in the US could not even exist on the grid, if it were not for the OTHER generators doing the peaking, filling in and balancing

Mills and her ignoramus enviro clowns should show us just where the money would come from for these $350,00 electric buses.

Unlike Vitelli, I actually read the Massachusetts electric bus report.

The report stated the project did not save any money, and it did not reduce CO2 on a cradle to grave basis.

Would that be different in Maine?

It seems People with any sense have left Disgusta

The imbecile clowns rein.

I installed Eloise's computer network when she directed Women, Work, and Community; her knowledge of them was superficial...but then so was that of everyone I sold and installed computers for. She's attempting to get out in front of a technology area that has little testing behind it; perhaps she's spoken to the managers of the thousands of electric golf carts, but most likely it was marketing rep. for the bus company. Worth a try, an experiment for year or so; and then an evaluation...but she didn't say that.

Hannah Pingree on the Maine expedited wind law

Hannah Pingree - Director of Maine's Office of Innovation and the Future

"Once the committee passed the wind energy bill on to the full House and Senate, lawmakers there didn’t even debate it. They passed it unanimously and with no discussion. House Majority Leader Hannah Pingree, a Democrat from North Haven, says legislators probably didn’t know how many turbines would be constructed in Maine."

They passed it unanimously and with no discussion. House Majority Leader Hannah Pingree, a Democrat from North Haven, says legislators probably didn’t know how many turbines would be constructed in Maine if the law’s goals were met." . – Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting, August 2010 https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-power-bandwagon-hits-bumps-in-the-road-3/From Part 2 – On Wind and Oil Yet using wind energy doesn’t lower dependence on imported foreign oil. That’s because the majority of imported oil in Maine is used for heating and transportation. And switching our dependence from foreign oil to Maine-produced electricity isn’t likely to happen very soon, says Bartlett. “Right now, people can’t switch to electric cars and heating – if they did, we’d be in trouble.” So was one of the fundamental premises of the task force false, or at least misleading?" https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-swept-task-force-set-the-rules/From Part 3 – On Wind-Required New Transmission Lines Finally, the building of enormous, high-voltage transmission lines that the regional electricity system operator says are required to move substantial amounts of wind power to markets south of Maine was never even discussed by the task force – an omission that Mills said will come to haunt the state.“If you try to put 2,500 or 3,000 megawatts in northern or eastern Maine – oh, my god, try to build the transmission!” said Mills. “It’s not just the towers, it’s the lines – that’s when I begin to think that the goal is a little farfetched.” https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/flaws-in-bill-like-skating-with-dull-skates/
