A Wall Street Journal Repost, The Brewing Tempest Over Wind Power

The Brewing Tempest Over Wind Power

People living near turbines increasingly report sleep deprivation, headaches and vertigo. The wind lobby says there's no proof.

(Doesn't this sound like the smoking and asbestos issues of years past?)

By ROBERT BRYCE

Imagine this scenario: The oil and gas industry launches an aggressive global drilling program with a new type of well. Thousands of these new wells, once operational, emit a noxious… Continue

Passing out brochures

The citizens of Clifton want to hand out brochures tomorrow at the town office to let people know about the June 17th vote on a moratorium on the wind turbine application. The town officals say we have to be located 250 feet from the door. Does anyone out there know if this is true. What are our legal rights?

Big Wind, Big Lies

Lets not talk about the pseudo-green "bling" power potential of Big Wind. Lets talk about the legal process being used by Industrial Wind to site projects. Lets talk about corruption of the legal process in towns, collusion, and political stink at high levels. Lets talk about citizen free speech and transparent process, and breaches in it. Lets talk about an Industry that is in bed with present and past governors of Maine. Lets look at a town like Lincoln where citizens have to fight to the… Continue

The Big Wind Regatta

Many, many people believe in the 'green-ness' of industrial wind, and that makes opposing such developments an uphill battle all the way. As we who oppose the destruction of Maine's iconic mountains work hard to bring the facts to the people of Maine, multitudes are changing their opinions and joining us as we work to stop this misguided plan. In fact, I have not yet met a person who, once armed with truthful information backed by science and sound economics, didn't become a convert... unless… Continue

UMPI turbine output website is working again - with a dismal average

UMPPI's wind turbine website is working again, reporting (finally) net output in "kwh" instead of the meaningless "kw" that prevailed for so long. You must understand that, on this website, "kwh" really means: "net kwh produced since commissioning May 19, 2009". I am hoping someone will make these distinctions clear to them; I have done my best.

In the 18 days from 5/19 to 6/05 (2010) the UMPI windmill produced (net) 24948 kwh, or an average 1386 kwh per day. It was a pretty quiet…

One Size Fits All - Leave Maine Alone

Chances are you've been asked by one activist group or another to contact your Senators in support of "the" Climate Change legislation. Most of these posters have no idea what they are talking about. They just want to stop global warming, and they think a call to Senator Snowe will accomplish that goal. There are many versions of legislation being floated in DC right now, and they all generally penalize fossil fuels and incentivize renewables. This could result in more subsidies for wind power… Continue

ATT: THE FLIGHT PATH

Last evening at 7:30.m. while working outside my husband and I heard the sounds off in a distance of the geese that take this flight path each year. Within minutes they were overhead. We stopped what we were doing and sat back to watch this beautiful site. GUESS WHERE THE FLIGHT PATH IS ? Right over SADDLEBACK MOUNTAIN RIDGE....... I can only wonder if the Flight Path Monitor is still in place on Saddle Back, when it was in place, what month it was in place, how long it was in place, and what… Continue

Bangor Daily News 2009 Poll: "Would You Want A Wind Turbine Located In Your Town?"

The results are just a tad different than the recent poll that the wind industry paid for. Boy, wouldn't they like to totally silence us?…

Maine Center For Public Interest Reporting – Three Part Series: A CRITICAL LOOK AT MAINE’S WIND ACT

******** IF LINKS BELOW DON'T WORK, GOOGLE THEM*********

(excerpts) From Part 1 – On Maine’s Wind Law “Once the committee passed the wind energy bill on to the full House and Senate, lawmakers there didn’t even debate it. They passed it unanimously and with no discussion. House Majority Leader Hannah Pingree, a Democrat from North Haven, says legislators probably didn’t know how many turbines would be constructed in Maine if the law’s goals were met." . – Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting, August 2010 https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-power-bandwagon-hits-bumps-in-the-road-3/From Part 2 – On Wind and Oil Yet using wind energy doesn’t lower dependence on imported foreign oil. That’s because the majority of imported oil in Maine is used for heating and transportation. And switching our dependence from foreign oil to Maine-produced electricity isn’t likely to happen very soon, says Bartlett. “Right now, people can’t switch to electric cars and heating – if they did, we’d be in trouble.” So was one of the fundamental premises of the task force false, or at least misleading?" https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-swept-task-force-set-the-rules/From Part 3 – On Wind-Required New Transmission Lines Finally, the building of enormous, high-voltage transmission lines that the regional electricity system operator says are required to move substantial amounts of wind power to markets south of Maine was never even discussed by the task force – an omission that Mills said will come to haunt the state.“If you try to put 2,500 or 3,000 megawatts in northern or eastern Maine – oh, my god, try to build the transmission!” said Mills. “It’s not just the towers, it’s the lines – that’s when I begin to think that the goal is a little farfetched.” https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/flaws-in-bill-like-skating-with-dull-skates/
