Revolution Wind Delay Nothing New

.

The Revolution Wind 1 project consists of 65 wind turbines, and the Revolution Wind 2 project consists of 110 wind turbines. Construction has started on the first project.

.

As of July 2023, Rhode Island Energy withdrew from its Power Purchase Agreement with Ørsted and Eversource for the offshore wind farm Revolution Wind 2, raising issues over increased expenses, interest rates, inflation, and federal tax credits.

.

During 2022, several Massachusetts offshore wind companies terminated their contracts and then rebid them, causing delays, and still have no Power Purchase Agreements. Offshore wind companies have profit goals, while the states have climate goals.
.
In 2024, the federal government shut down the Vineyard Wind project due to a 50-ton blade failure. The investigation resulted in hundreds of defective blades that require replacement.

.

Several states signed unachievable laws to reach climate goals by 2030.

.

These same New England states shunned new pipelines and shut down fossil fuel plants before offshore wind had even started to generate power. Politicians bet on a loser, putting electric ratepayers at risk. They put the cart before the horse.

.

During the cancellation of power purchase agreements and offshore companies rebidding contracts, the electric bills have become as high as a second mortgage on a residential home.

.

Recently, the Trump administration shut down the Revolution Wind 1 project because of national defense, and multiple lawsuits have been filed. Politicians argue the loss of jobs from offshore wind but forget the 10,000 jobs lost by the Biden administration shutting down the Keystone pipeline.

.

Connecticut and Rhode Island are requesting a preliminary injunction to restart the stalled Revolution Wind project.

.

Questions have been raised about whether states, cities, and towns have invested taxpayers' revenue in offshore wind. Orsted stock has dropped dramatically since August.

.

The alternative is natural gas and SMR, small modular reactors.
