EXTOLLING THE VIRTUES OF SUBSIDY-FREE WIND - HA!

If there were ever an award for journalistic BS - this article would surely be in the running.  Unfortunately today, this is true also of most we  read and hear from the media!

Wow Paula, that article really emphasizes how long we've been fighting this battle.  Interesting that the comments have been removed.  Many people still truly believe that these turbines will wean us off of foreign oil and stop the blood shed in the middle east.  Nobody talks about weaning ourselves off of power usage.  Remember the old pencil sharpeners that didn't require electricity?  We don't have to return to cave dwellings to reduce our usage.

I found it a good time to review this BDN article:

Unfortunately, politics attracts more schemers and dreamers than honest and educated public service minded individuals. Politics is a dirty business and why would good people want to go getting involved in it? Too often, only because they have been shafted by the system and want to fix it but discover that's a huge task. Then they either join the ranks of the schemers or withdraw from the field. Anyone sees any dry ground coming up out of that swamp, please sing out.

Deborah, Anarchy is no form of government or decision making, at least not in this country for the last 400 years. Our system has been very well thought out and it is only in the last 30 years has this new wave of those that don't play well with others have basically told everyone else that their vision does not matter. Those are the seeds of totalitarianism, not what we have known for 400 years. When I hear citizens tell me they need to blow up institutions, literally, I have a problem and is why we still maintain the second amendment. This is not supposed to be political, our fight is with science from their side that THEY say is settled. Well consensus does not make it settled, science does not either. There has been too much corruption and that has to be addressed. I refuse to return to the middle ages. We have plenty of fuel of all sorts and more to find. The Earth is not finite and we find more and more all the time. The last 40 years have been spent very wisely cleaning up our environment and anything we are doing today is still making it better.

Jim, I admit that I have some concerns about what seem to me to be an extreme solution.  Even so, I think we have much to re-assess from our form of governance, method of decision making (majority rule or money talks), and what we take for granted.  When one considers the fact that all resources are finite, that everything we surround ourselves with/aspire to/create is essentially both extractive (and therefore cannot go on forever, never mind the next 50 yrs), and also unfortunately contributes to either climate change/climate chaos or some other form of desecration of earth/soils, air, or water ... it seems to me we need a really thoughtful pow pow ... My sense at this time is that re-localization is likely to be wise.  How far we can take this can only be answered if we start the process with some shared agreements.  I would posit application of: (1) the Precautionary Principle and, (2) the Principle of Do No Harm.  I would also suggest decisions made by consent (which cannot be achieved as long as any paramount/reasoned objections remain).  Tall order, I know.

Deborah, I listened to that entire hour and a half video by the DeepGreenResistance where they so blatantly exposed all that was wrong with the wind and solar industry and how their methods of making the panels and turbines are more polluting and dangerous to the environment than anything they save.

The problem is when they begin to get into the discussion about how we have to stop ALL industrialization and return to the stone age. These people are dangerous and need to be locked up. They think that there has to be organized attacks on all industrial infrastructure including communications, energy, manufacturing, resources, government, farming . . . you name it they want to put an END to it. These people are ANARCHISTS of the highest order! Please listen to the whole thing and see if you still feel that that their message is one we should listen to.

Don't know about you, but I am not ready to return to living in caves.

I've been working on this issue for some time ... with very little positive results.  I am particularly alarmed by the two huge marches about to occur .. so many people think we can simply replace fossil fuels and nuclear and go on our merry way.  A very destructive path, if we are unable to get the larger public to accept the facts, as disturbing as this will be.

Thank you for that link, Deborah Andrews.  Echoes of Edward Abbey are hidden in there, along with a very good expose of the not-so-green ripple effects of so-called green energy.

yes, this does elaborate on all of the harm done from mining, to manufacture, etc. of Industrial Wind Turbines.  However, they appear to think that nuclear power is one answer ... unfortunately, once one has all the facts, this is not an option.

Thank you Deborah - This video is very informative and speaks to the large amounts of rare earth metals used in making wind turbines as well as many other environmentally horrible unspoken results of wind turbine use!  As Long Islander has also pointed out - Americans and the world are being duped!  We need the credible scientific community (not those making money off of promoting the myth of how to stop climate change .86 degrees C since 1880 if you want the high number) to step forward and talk truthfully about how the world is changing - And that includes why the Atlantic ocean is rising other changes are occurring!

(excerpts) From Part 1 – On Maine’s Wind Law “Once the committee passed the wind energy bill on to the full House and Senate, lawmakers there didn’t even debate it. They passed it unanimously and with no discussion. House Majority Leader Hannah Pingree, a Democrat from North Haven, says legislators probably didn’t know how many turbines would be constructed in Maine if the law’s goals were met." . – Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting, August 2010 https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-power-bandwagon-hits-bumps-in-the-road-3/From Part 2 – On Wind and Oil Yet using wind energy doesn’t lower dependence on imported foreign oil. That’s because the majority of imported oil in Maine is used for heating and transportation. And switching our dependence from foreign oil to Maine-produced electricity isn’t likely to happen very soon, says Bartlett. “Right now, people can’t switch to electric cars and heating – if they did, we’d be in trouble.” So was one of the fundamental premises of the task force false, or at least misleading?" https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-swept-task-force-set-the-rules/From Part 3 – On Wind-Required New Transmission Lines Finally, the building of enormous, high-voltage transmission lines that the regional electricity system operator says are required to move substantial amounts of wind power to markets south of Maine was never even discussed by the task force – an omission that Mills said will come to haunt the state.“If you try to put 2,500 or 3,000 megawatts in northern or eastern Maine – oh, my god, try to build the transmission!” said Mills. “It’s not just the towers, it’s the lines – that’s when I begin to think that the goal is a little farfetched.” https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/flaws-in-bill-like-skating-with-dull-skates/
