As a dedicated supporter of all anti-wind groups, especially those based in Maine, I am mortified to learn of the recent intramural backstabbing in our "movement." I just don't understand why someone thought it would even remotely be considered a good idea to foment dissension within our ranks. We are ALL on the same team. We may disagree with each other about strategy, tactics or decisions, but we ARE ALL ON THE SAME TEAM! We are at a distinct disadvantage, in peril because our opponents are well connected and well funded. We need EVERY VICTORY WE CAN GET, no matter how minor. I would like to call on EVERYONE in our fight to PULL TOGETHER, and renounce once and for all the juvenile "payback" schemes --- played out in public --- that are detrimental to our cause. Thank you for letting me blow off steam on this topic.

Janice, by you calling this legal battle a "juvenile payback scheme",  it becomes evident that you either are unaware of all the nuances of the FMM battle and subsequent investigation by the AG, or that you're blind to the actions taken by Chris O'Neil and Rand Stowell.  I agree that we need "every victory we can get" but not those that come at the expense of our groups' honor, integrity, and public perception.  I, for one, would much rather be seen as speaking out against corruption, lying, and illegal tactics by one of our groups, rather than to have anyone think that I (or anyone else in this battle) condone the actions of a couple of rotten apples who have been in this fight since the very beginning for their own personal financial gain.   FMM betrayed those who supported them, and in doing so didn't care if they sullied the reputations of their board members or their general membership.  The illegal behind the scenes shenanigans at FMM needed to cease, and I'm personally thankful to those who stood tall against O'Neil and Stowell and held to the principles and values they hold dear.

If you choose to lay down with thieves, that's your privilege, but please don't act surprised when you wake up from your nap and you find they've stolen your wallet and much of your pride.

W. Va repealed their alternative energy act. We can too.

Corporations who are just out for the money appreciate a good divide and conquer day.

Not gonna' happen.

Janice, I recognize the value of 'blowing off steam' but IMHO you're being unfair to all of those who fight wind projects in Maine, be they individual projects (PPDLW vs Bowers, etc.) or Statewide (SavingMaine, etc.). Ironically, you have chosen to vent through a public forum that is read by wind developers and the media.

I doubt very much that anyone 'thought it would... be considered a good idea to foment dissension...". This is a case of two individuals who acted according to their own very personal and individual circumstances.

I hope that the media and the public don't paint everyone who dares stand up against a wind developer with this broad brush.

I agree, and this was something I was looking for in the Anti-Wind movement in Maine since the Rally of Unity in Augusta this past January. Individually we may not be able to do much, however United with One voice, going for the heart of the beast should be the answer. Attacking the laws that allow this to exist and the rules that are insufficient in protections. Promoting Point of Use energy sources where possible, such as Home System of any energy source. We do not have Grid Scale Oil Heat, why then Wind or Solar. This "Grid" is inefficiency at our expense, for the profit of a few.

UNITED FOR THE COMMON GOOD should become a reality, not just a slogan.

(excerpts) From Part 1 – On Maine’s Wind Law “Once the committee passed the wind energy bill on to the full House and Senate, lawmakers there didn’t even debate it. They passed it unanimously and with no discussion. House Majority Leader Hannah Pingree, a Democrat from North Haven, says legislators probably didn’t know how many turbines would be constructed in Maine if the law’s goals were met." . – Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting, August 2010 https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-power-bandwagon-hits-bumps-in-the-road-3/From Part 2 – On Wind and Oil Yet using wind energy doesn’t lower dependence on imported foreign oil. That’s because the majority of imported oil in Maine is used for heating and transportation. And switching our dependence from foreign oil to Maine-produced electricity isn’t likely to happen very soon, says Bartlett. “Right now, people can’t switch to electric cars and heating – if they did, we’d be in trouble.” So was one of the fundamental premises of the task force false, or at least misleading?" https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-swept-task-force-set-the-rules/From Part 3 – On Wind-Required New Transmission Lines Finally, the building of enormous, high-voltage transmission lines that the regional electricity system operator says are required to move substantial amounts of wind power to markets south of Maine was never even discussed by the task force – an omission that Mills said will come to haunt the state.“If you try to put 2,500 or 3,000 megawatts in northern or eastern Maine – oh, my god, try to build the transmission!” said Mills. “It’s not just the towers, it’s the lines – that’s when I begin to think that the goal is a little farfetched.” https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/flaws-in-bill-like-skating-with-dull-skates/
