Nikki, that's an excellent suggestion to map out the projects, it would make a great newspaper ad to show the areas being impacted by these projects and the number of turbines proposed or existing at each site.  People are unaware of the cumultive impact all these projects will have on our state.

Brad, Thanks for all you are doing to help with this!  I am one of those living in threatened Orland, within a mile from the proposed site, and believe me, I WANT to be out on the frontline.  Just because people aren't showing up doesn't mean we don't want to - working full time, raising 2 children, building a home, trying to organize our small community to educate the rest of the town about Eolian and the lies of the wind industry - there is just no time for me to be driving to Oakfield or these other places in Maine.  I have been keeping up with what is happening in Frankfort.  And our town officials certainly know we are angry and not going to go away.

I have been wishing there was a way I could be more connected to others in the state who are in our boat... and unfortunately I am not available to go to the Nov 8th Summit.  Are there other ways of networking out there that I am not aware of?  I think one thing we need to do is to map out ALL of the existing and proposed sites and start advertising that.  Once people starts seeing just how many of these sites that are starting to pop up all over the state, it will hopefully make them think again about how harmless these projects are.

Folks, the thing we need to continue to do is expand our network of like-minded wind opponents.  Arm your self with the facts all the time, always have copies of 20 Facts (see tab above) to give to anyone who is willing to have an open mind.  We also have to get people out.  I can't get to remote locations, as I no longer have any flexibility with my work.  But we didn't have anyone protesting First Wind's Oakfield groundbreaking.  Nobody is showing up at meetings in Eastbrook and other locations Downeast, there has been little opposition to #9, Bingham got steamrollered because First Wind divided the town and bought off the AMC.  With the powerline from Oakfield to Chester, every ridgeline within view of Mt. Katahdin is a potential wind turbine site.   This site is a great resource.  FMM keeps a presence for us in Augusta, and Saving Maine.org is doing its best to do an advertising campaign (a co-worker came up to me today and mentioned the TV ad!).  But the people who live in the threatened regions need to be the front line, pissed off people.

Mike, as if the wind industry needs any help as they use taxpayer money to fund their PR and their local bribes, the NextGen Climate operation is funded by left wing eco-freak billionaire Tom Steyer and the pandering pro-wind environmentalists are happy as pigs in shit over the influx millions of dollars to push their agenda.  Nobody seems to object to this out of state buying of influence on behalf of this destructive special interest.  Can you imagine what WE could do with several full time staff and an advertising budget?  Here is a link to a PPH story about NextGen Climate and Maine:  http://www.pressherald.com/2014/08/26/billionaire-tom-steyers-clima...

I just got a call from NextGen Climate something from Portland in support of Mike Michaud. I am contacting them to explain if MM really loves Maine he will stop supporting windsprawl. I have already contacted other politicians with our position on ugly turbines. Good point from Donna contacting Maine Woods Forever. If the wind cabal is allowed to run roughshod all over  the expedited area, it is only a matter of time before they hit the North Woods with turbine garbage, sadly.

well said Penny- I have said time and time again who would have EVER thought anything like this would come to these teeny rural communities? which is of course exactly why they have come this distance (which is itself ludicrous to bring those monstrosities this far)..easy to conquer unlike larger more informed more monied communities..we all know this-- sigh.

Thank you all for your insight and hard work.  The media is a sore spot with me; I do understand that reporters work for editors and it's a shaky economy for print news, and a reporter has to keep their job in order to pay their bills.  So we can't really blame the reporters for mirroring their editors views, or the farmer or woodlot owner for leasing his land to the wind developers or losing it to high taxes.  we all have to survive and money is the biggest religion going...maybe the best we can do is keep educating the people who think wind power will make Maine's air cleaner for their children and so forth.  I don't know.  But exposing the nasty side of industrial wind, the greedy corrupt twisted side, needs to happen somehow.  How can we do this?  Paula, your comment "I'm not sure which is the biggest gut ache, losing our State's natural treasures or losing our State's neighborly communities. This is an assault on our heritage and our values." ---sums up the whole horrific nightmare.  I never thought I'd see Carthage torn in half by a Massachusetts developer.  Those folks were salt of the earth.  There's nothing left of that town now and it breaks my heart.  My father's ashes are on top of Saddleback Mountain which is being assaulted by blasting crews and road building and turbines and transmission lines...  I never imagined a fate like that would ever befall ANY of Maine's mountains.  I never imagined our tightly knit rural  communitites would ever be divided and conquered so easily by out of state corporations flashing $20. gift certificates to the Blue Moose and a new basketball hoop at the town office.  This truly is a nightmare that needs freelance journalism of the highest order to educated the people of Maine to what's really going on.

Thanks, Donna. I think we need a statewide coallition representing all of the organizations that have formed to oppose wind turbines all over Maine. An association that can combine the reach and knowledge of all the separate groups. Our Clifton Task Force on Wind could use help and we could offer help. This has been a five year struggle for us so far and we've learned a lot but we still find this a daunting task for one small group. Our Planning Board worried from the beginning that we might attract 'outsiders', that would muddy the waters. It really isn't an isolated one town problem. This is every town's nightmare. We're hoping it ends soon.

I juts wrote  long  post that deleted but I suggest we let organizations like Maine WOODS FOREVER  know about us- I spoke at a meeting there last friday (about this scourge) and they are into conserving and preserving the north woods while people like dave gordon of oak field and the powers trust, who lost their appeal, have joined forces with first wind- people who do not need that money ( greed not green) and have plenty already- while they rest of us would not take a dime from FW- whether we need it or not- the longterm wealth of natural resources is being destroyed so I commend any community that stops them-

The extent of the media's 'willingness to overlook the deficiencies in the wind power propoganda' matches the 'willingness of the Planning Board to overlook the deficiencies in the Pisgah application' here in Clifton. My conclusion is that some people are ignorant, some people are shortsighted, and a whole bunch of people can be influenced by the nebulous idea of a magical windfall of personal profit. Then there are the people who honestly believe that wind power is the right thing to do for their children and their state. We need to keep up with getting the facts out to them. Here in Clifton though, when you try to do that, you need to be ready to have the witch hunt and the lynch mob turn their focus on you. I know this is happening all over the state. I'm not sure which is the biggest gut ache, losing our State's natural treasures or losing our State's neighborly communities. This is an assault on our heritage and our values. In downeast Maine we grew up knowing that no matter how money poor we were, we had a richness of natural blessings surrounding us and a community of other's who shared our pride in being up to the challenge of surviving and thriving through our wits and our hard work. Our neighbors here in Clifton tell us we are crazy to oppose this project. It seems crazy to us to sell out what we hold dear for the promise of lower taxes. Keep the faith all and keep putting the facts out and keep supporting those who are in the front lines of this battle.

They passed it unanimously and with no discussion. House Majority Leader Hannah Pingree, a Democrat from North Haven, says legislators probably didn’t know how many turbines would be constructed in Maine if the law’s goals were met." . – Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting, August 2010 https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-power-bandwagon-hits-bumps-in-the-road-3/From Part 2 – On Wind and Oil Yet using wind energy doesn’t lower dependence on imported foreign oil. That’s because the majority of imported oil in Maine is used for heating and transportation. And switching our dependence from foreign oil to Maine-produced electricity isn’t likely to happen very soon, says Bartlett. “Right now, people can’t switch to electric cars and heating – if they did, we’d be in trouble.” So was one of the fundamental premises of the task force false, or at least misleading?" https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-swept-task-force-set-the-rules/From Part 3 – On Wind-Required New Transmission Lines Finally, the building of enormous, high-voltage transmission lines that the regional electricity system operator says are required to move substantial amounts of wind power to markets south of Maine was never even discussed by the task force – an omission that Mills said will come to haunt the state.“If you try to put 2,500 or 3,000 megawatts in northern or eastern Maine – oh, my god, try to build the transmission!” said Mills. “It’s not just the towers, it’s the lines – that’s when I begin to think that the goal is a little farfetched.” https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/flaws-in-bill-like-skating-with-dull-skates/
