The PUC is currently a battleground for wind development. Please visit both the filings and the public comments in Case Number 2020-00033.

  1. There are not enough public comments submitted like the one from Dave Conley. Between Longroad’s King Pine, EDP’s Number Nine, Clearway's County and whatever other wind projects might be lurking, this RFP could result in the surrounding of “forever wild” Baxter on at least three sides with several hundred to 1000 turbines.

Remember, First Wind (latest incarnation Longroad) held leases in northwestern Maine from the Kibby Range up through the St. John/Allagash watershed past Daquaam to Fort Kent. Maine is already unwilling host to about 450 turbines, more than all New England states combined. Enough is enough.

Remember, the PUC didn’t write the arbitrary law expanding the RPS, but in this case, the PUC is being asked to use its discretion by thumbing the scale for huge wind developments, all of which have been held at bay by the transmission gap. If the legislature insists on procuring wind energy, let the PUC use discretion to put it offshore. (In the rough wake of the single NECEC power line, the PUC is highly sensitive to anti-transmission sentiment, let alone ratepayer protection.)

  1. In addition to PUC comments, these legislators (who appear to be "on the team" (and who are all against the NECEC) must be criticized by us voters for their asinine pronouncements. Percival P. Baxter was a president of the Senate. (He became governor when Governor Parkhurst died.) If Baxter were around today, he would surely do battle with current Senate President Troy Jackson, whose blind devotion to trashing Maine insults his noble predecessor’s legacy as well as the office.

Thank you. I finally got through and was able to post a comment.

Penny - try to read the comments again and when you get the "pop up windows blocked" message, look to see if you are given an option somewhere to allow them for that website. If that doesn't work, perhaps try another browser.

Where would those ugly bastards connect, CMP'S POWERLINE!

For some reason I can't read the comments, just says "pop up windows blocked".

Katahdin Woods and Waters has just gained designation as an International Dark Skies Sanctuary, one of increasingly rare places without light pollution where you can view the Milky Way.  We need to hammer these idiots with Michael Moore's documentary so everyone sees this industry as the fraud it is and always has been.

The tradition is to approve  these projects (as well as pass legislation like the Wind Law of 2008 ,PL-661) under the noses of the public whilst they are concerned with other issues(Covid perhaps) , or kept removed from them. (No Press or minimal coverage allowed).

These wind  scoundrels are low life bottom feeders at the federal and state subsidy trough, and defilers of Mainer's civil rights.

This Communist Chinese project (Number 9) should be banned on environmental grounds, as well as on  national security grounds.

(excerpts) From Part 1 – On Maine’s Wind Law “Once the committee passed the wind energy bill on to the full House and Senate, lawmakers there didn’t even debate it. They passed it unanimously and with no discussion. House Majority Leader Hannah Pingree, a Democrat from North Haven, says legislators probably didn’t know how many turbines would be constructed in Maine if the law’s goals were met." . – Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting, August 2010 https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-power-bandwagon-hits-bumps-in-the-road-3/From Part 2 – On Wind and Oil Yet using wind energy doesn’t lower dependence on imported foreign oil. That’s because the majority of imported oil in Maine is used for heating and transportation. And switching our dependence from foreign oil to Maine-produced electricity isn’t likely to happen very soon, says Bartlett. “Right now, people can’t switch to electric cars and heating – if they did, we’d be in trouble.” So was one of the fundamental premises of the task force false, or at least misleading?" https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-swept-task-force-set-the-rules/From Part 3 – On Wind-Required New Transmission Lines Finally, the building of enormous, high-voltage transmission lines that the regional electricity system operator says are required to move substantial amounts of wind power to markets south of Maine was never even discussed by the task force – an omission that Mills said will come to haunt the state.“If you try to put 2,500 or 3,000 megawatts in northern or eastern Maine – oh, my god, try to build the transmission!” said Mills. “It’s not just the towers, it’s the lines – that’s when I begin to think that the goal is a little farfetched.” https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/flaws-in-bill-like-skating-with-dull-skates/
