Blaine House solar project a powerful symbol – and debatable economic investment

Complications lowered by half how much energy would be offset and tripled the pay-back period.

...........................In addition, the project’s revised design generates only half as much power as initially specified, taking a smaller bite  than expected out of the building’s $12,000 annual electric bill.

Despite these modifications, the Mills administration says the project’s economic benefits should be viewed in broader terms.

“The length of the payback period is not and should not be the only measure of the project,” said Lindsay Crete, the governor’s press secretary.

Crete noted that the project already has offset more than 1,400 pounds of carbon emissions, equal to planting 36 trees. Although the Blaine House isn’t heated with oil, Crete added that the panels will annually offset the equivalent of burning 43 barrels, or 1,806 gallons of oil, with clean, renewable energy.

Crete added: “When all these factors – the reduced consumption of and reliance on fossil fuels, the increased consumption of homegrown clean, renewable energy and, additionally, the very real demonstration of Maine’s long-overdue embrace of renewable energy – are taken into consideration, the state is satisfied with this project and believes it is sensible, forward-looking investment that moves Maine in the right direction.........................................................................

Gov. Sununu signs order on offshore wind development

CONCORD (AP) — Gov. Chris Sununu has signed an executive order preparing the state for future offshore wind development.

The order signed Tuesday establishes four advisory boards focused on fisheries and endangered species, workforce and economic development, offshore industries and infrastructure.

“New Hampshire recognizes the tremendous potential that offshore wind power has to offer,” Sununu said in a statement. “With today’s executive order, New Hampshire will ensure that this is an open and transparent process involving diverse stakeholders to balance existing offshore uses with a new source of clean energy.”

The boards will report to a a Bureau of Ocean Energy Management Offshore Renewable Task Force, which has its first meeting Dec. 12 at the University of New Hampshire.

Disgusta bureaucrats are grasping at straws to try to justify how stupid they were by not properly vetting the installation before it was built.

How would they like it if Ford said to them the car gets 30 mpg, but after buying it gets only 15 mpg?

They would howl like stuck pigs.

But this is taxpayer money.

That can be foolishly wasted on all sorts of nonsense.

no one gets fired.

no one suffers retribution.

The use of taxpayer money to show off how 'woke' you are, is a travesty foisted on already overtaxed citizens! This is another self centered example of how little Mill's cares about the citizens of Maine!

(excerpts) From Part 1 – On Maine’s Wind Law “Once the committee passed the wind energy bill on to the full House and Senate, lawmakers there didn’t even debate it. They passed it unanimously and with no discussion. House Majority Leader Hannah Pingree, a Democrat from North Haven, says legislators probably didn’t know how many turbines would be constructed in Maine if the law’s goals were met." . – Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting, August 2010 https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-power-bandwagon-hits-bumps-in-the-road-3/From Part 2 – On Wind and Oil Yet using wind energy doesn’t lower dependence on imported foreign oil. That’s because the majority of imported oil in Maine is used for heating and transportation. And switching our dependence from foreign oil to Maine-produced electricity isn’t likely to happen very soon, says Bartlett. “Right now, people can’t switch to electric cars and heating – if they did, we’d be in trouble.” So was one of the fundamental premises of the task force false, or at least misleading?" https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-swept-task-force-set-the-rules/From Part 3 – On Wind-Required New Transmission Lines Finally, the building of enormous, high-voltage transmission lines that the regional electricity system operator says are required to move substantial amounts of wind power to markets south of Maine was never even discussed by the task force – an omission that Mills said will come to haunt the state.“If you try to put 2,500 or 3,000 megawatts in northern or eastern Maine – oh, my god, try to build the transmission!” said Mills. “It’s not just the towers, it’s the lines – that’s when I begin to think that the goal is a little farfetched.” https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/flaws-in-bill-like-skating-with-dull-skates/
