Janet Mills' nominee for DIF&W involved with wind industry conference in June

Before joining the department, she served as Gilsland Farm Center Director at Maine Audubon from 1996-2007.

Gov.-elect Janet Mills announced Wednesday that she will nominate Judy Camuso as the next commissioner of the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife.

Camuso, who serves as the director of the department’s wildlife division, has worked for the DIF&W for more than a decade.

“Maine’s heritage, its culture, and its future are all inextricably linked to our outdoors — and no one better understands that or appreciates it more than Judy,” Mills said in a news release. “Her more than 10 years of experience at MDIFW, along with her deep understanding of its importance and the issues it confronts, position her well to lead it in the years to come. I look forward to working with Judy to continue to prioritize the protection, enhancement, and enjoyment of our outdoors.”

Would like to know what was presented here: "AWEA - “Keep Calm and Carry On: Land-Based Wind Development in the Northeast”

James Muscato, partner at Young/Sommer LLC in cooperation with Juliet Browne, Partner at Verrill Dana, Judy Camuso, Wildlife Director, Maine Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife and Matt Kearns, Chief Development Officer, Long Road Energy, will be giving a presentation at the 2018 AWEA Wind Energy Conference, June 26 – 27, 2018 in Portland, Maine.

The presentation entitled, “Keep Calm and Carry On: Land-Based Wind Development in the Northeast”, will discuss the key siting obstacles and opportunities as well as strategies for improving the regulatory climate as each of the New England states including New York, head into the November 2018 gubernatorial elections. Jim’s talk will focus on New York issues following the Cassadaga Wind proceeding, the first energy project certified under the New York’s new Article 10 siting law

We would also be looking to develop specific ITPs for any accidental mortality of either little brown bat or Eastern small-footed bat that would result from the operation of a wind turbine.

Mrs. Oldham stated that should be interesting, probably the wind power hadn't been around long enough to have any really good scientific data.

Ms. Camuso stated the wind industry had been collecting data on species occurrences in proximity to their facilities and as part of their permit requirements they had to do preimposed construction surveys of the facilities. Northern long-eared bats had not to date been documented being taken at a wind turbine. Last summer the USFWS recognized this on a national basis that the wind industry had posed less than 1/10th of 1% of all mortalities of bats or Northern long-eared bats. The wind industry, they gave them a pass under the 4d rule.

Mrs. Oldham asked if USFWS relied on that data. It was kind of like a drug company doing new research on its own medicine.

Weaver Wind, LLC proposes a 22-turbine, 72.6 MW wind energy facility in the Towns of Eastbrook and Osborn. The applications were accepted as complete on November 13, 2018. Weaver Wind had previously submitted application for a 23-turbine, 75.9 MW facility; that application was withdrawn on August 28, 2015 at Weaver Wind's request.

Yeah, here we go, it has been obvious for years that Audubon was bought off by big wind years ago to ignore the mortality of birds of prey including Bald Eagles, and also deadly to a host of other birds and bats!  Ms. Camuso is all that's wrong with this regime, just another political hack that will bow down to big wind as they destroy tens of thousands of acres to build their useless windmills. This regime is well on it's way to destroying everything good in the state of Maine full speed ahead, next stop Socialism, with few jobs and citizens leaving at sinking ship speed and taking many small businesses with them! The Mills regime is a train wreck, and we get to watch as it transpires!

Jeremy "Windmill" Payne in the PPH:

"This agency requires new leadership, and Judy is the perfect person to ensure the department remains focused on its core mission while also evolving and innovating to meet the needs of Maine's outdoors users and those that seek to bring new investment and employment to the state."

(Emphasis added to the smarmy code-words)

Maybe Big Wind has been irritated by DIFW in project applications like Bingham, Number 9 and Weaver, where initial agency reviews pointed out very bad outcomes for critters. Maybe Payne is speaking code for "the critters are now in trouble again."

(excerpts) From Part 1 – On Maine’s Wind Law “Once the committee passed the wind energy bill on to the full House and Senate, lawmakers there didn’t even debate it. They passed it unanimously and with no discussion. House Majority Leader Hannah Pingree, a Democrat from North Haven, says legislators probably didn’t know how many turbines would be constructed in Maine if the law’s goals were met." . – Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting, August 2010 https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-power-bandwagon-hits-bumps-in-the-road-3/From Part 2 – On Wind and Oil Yet using wind energy doesn’t lower dependence on imported foreign oil. That’s because the majority of imported oil in Maine is used for heating and transportation. And switching our dependence from foreign oil to Maine-produced electricity isn’t likely to happen very soon, says Bartlett. “Right now, people can’t switch to electric cars and heating – if they did, we’d be in trouble.” So was one of the fundamental premises of the task force false, or at least misleading?" https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-swept-task-force-set-the-rules/From Part 3 – On Wind-Required New Transmission Lines Finally, the building of enormous, high-voltage transmission lines that the regional electricity system operator says are required to move substantial amounts of wind power to markets south of Maine was never even discussed by the task force – an omission that Mills said will come to haunt the state.“If you try to put 2,500 or 3,000 megawatts in northern or eastern Maine – oh, my god, try to build the transmission!” said Mills. “It’s not just the towers, it’s the lines – that’s when I begin to think that the goal is a little farfetched.” https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/flaws-in-bill-like-skating-with-dull-skates/
